Crikey! Vines just said £588 ..... that's painful. (2018 1200GSA) Was going to get a quote off Bahnstormer but they can't fit me in before a trip. TBH, its on 22k miles, might just throw some fresh oil in and get a big service when i come back?

If you have a general confidence in the bike, fluids, brakes and tyres then I would (and have) gone for the travel then service on return option.

£588 seems a bit steep, even for a major service (checking valve clearances etc) - always remember that you are able to pick and choose what you take from their recommendations also.

Not sure who that is? Does it need to be a BMW service if it's under their approved used Warranty?
As long as it is serviced according to the manufacturers specs & genuine parts are used you can get servicing done where you want. My 2022 GS (& my K16 before that) have always been serviced by an independent-SBS Motorcycles in Lancing. My GS had 4k miles on it when I got it 2 years ago & now has coming up to 42k & Podge at SBS has done all of the servicing cheaper than & IMO more thorough than my local BMW workshop. The only things I’ve had done by BMW are the Kardan shaft replacement at 37000m & the adaptive LED headlamp replaced under warranty.

Had my 24k service last week. It cost £485 at ocean bmw but vertu quoted the same price. So your quote seems steep

Hi Spooky any chance you could send me the quote or invoice? Vines say on their website they'll match any other Motorrad quote

SCRATCH THAT. it says within 40 miles. Will get a quote from Bahnstormer tomorrow to compare.

I bought the parts, without brake fluid, for a 24K service from Vines last week. Just the oil & parts were just over £200, so I'm not surprised at your quote.

Next year I'll try NN's for the parts.

What did you order Bill ? That sounds quite expensive.

Mines due a service next month at 21,000 miles and I’m considering doing it myself.

Go to North Oxford. They usually have decent availability and their prices are pretty decent usually.

I had a quote for a 12k service last week of £582 at Wollaston Northampton. That includes the optional 12k carden shaft inspect and lube.
Ive not got anywhere near that mileage but i may exceed the 6 k between services while away on a trip so need it for warranty.
Im not sure on the cost alone of the Carden work but may opt to have that done when the bike has actually done 12k.

look into a service inclusive package. £900 for 18 000 miles or 3 years. Get the 24 done, then an annual then a 30 k in 2 years, all for £900. https://www.bmw-motorrad.co.uk/vines-of-guildford/en/offers/service-offers.html

I've had a quote from a dealer up north for my 24k service (2023 R1250GS). It's £530.

The price includes oil change, valve check, plugs, air filter, bevel box oil change, brake fluid f&r.

I got a quote from another dealer (Shrewsbury), and it was a bit more expensive.

With my 1200 I used to do the oil, filter, air filter, plugs and FD oil myself

Using genuine filters, crush washers and Motul oils I could do an annual service for about 65 euros including the FD

I got the valve clearances and brake fluid done by the dealer for 60 odd euros each

The spline lube is easy enough too

The cost included oil & air filter, plugs, 4 litres of engine oil, the final drive oil and sundries. I only went to Vines because I’m the Transport Consultant for the Mercedes dealer opposite and I was on site.
I found out subsequently that the service kit with engine oil only, is £120 from nippys. It’s another £35 for final drive oil kit. Well had over.

My old Hexhead was run on 20ltr bulk drums of oil but either BMW or Mahle filters (OE supplier) and Castro SAF-XO in the FD. Spark plugs were from spark plugs.co.uk as were lambda probes etc, coils were Beru. It was over-serviced by myself but never cost much per service and wanted for nothing.

If I home service my 1250 from now on it should be a similar story.

Yep, if you home service they're actually pretty cheap and easy, especially with the boxer layout

I used to do the FD at every annual service as it costs pennies and I'd already got my hands dirty so why not :nenau

Bahnstormer came in at £540. So have asked Vines to match it, as they advertise that they will.
