North Oxford quoted me £580

When did service prices become variable?

I had a quote for £308 for my first service incl VAT. Went to pay they said that's £370!?!

I mentioned the quote and they apologised and changed the price.

Brace yourselves……

FIVE services worth of 5W30 oil for the engine/box and SAF XO equivalent FD oil has just cost me £112. That’s 30,000 miles worth !

A service kit of air/oil filters, spark plugs and a full set of ALL brake pads was another £136.

I’m done with dealer pricing and their getting me jumping through hoops like I’m doing them a favour in letting them service my bike.

No more getting stiffed, I’ll buy my own coffee from now on, do my own spannering, fire up my GS911 and trouser the difference like I did with my lovely old Hexhead.

Just started servicing my lc this evening.
Oil 18 pounds
Spark plugs 23 pounds
Air filter 12.50
Bevel drive oil 2.50
Split drive shaft and lubed with marine grease 20 pence.
Brake fluid 5 pound
Oil filter 6 pounds
Tomorrow will change brake fluid and fit spark plugs checking valve clearances.

Labour is approx 4 hours but that includes deep clean while rear wheel off etc.
Reset service indicator with Moroccan app.

If a bmw dealer charges 100 per hour and takes 3 hours then add parts and vat the bill will just over 500 pounds.

Choice do it yourself or pay a garage

Im with you all the way, service it yourself and you know its been done properly :thumby:

But where the hell did you get oil for £18????:unsure::unsure:

Do they strip and clean the brakes too & change fuel filter too ?
Dealer suggested my bike required a `brake caliper clean` at last service at an additional cost of 70 quid. I declined.
I haven`t seen any reference to a fuel filter(replacement) in either the owners manual nor the workshop repair manual...

My 24k cost £500 in round numbers. I have extended warranty so I asked if I could do the simple stuff myself and let them do the valve checks. Apparently, in the event of a warranty claim, they need to see evidence that the bike has been serviced by a VAT registered garage
I have no idea what VAT registration says about the professionalism of the work but what can you do?

Just to be aware!

A certain BMW main dealer in Preston quoted me £500 ish for the "B" service.

Then added £60 PLUS VAT because the valves needed adjustment

Apparently they quoted price includes a "valve check" but if adjustment is required they charge even more!

I'm now going with a good BMW Indie for my GS. I don't even care if it costs more, I have more confidence the job is done properly and fairly.

The Indie should not affect warranty assuming the Indie is VAT registered and uses OEM parts.

I was worried about "goodwill" from my BMW franchise, but it appears it's worth NOTHING to them! No more trips to Preston for the last 2 years!

In a parallel universe, my Guzzi was bought from, and is serviced by a local "bike shop" (not a glitzy BM franchise I am pleased to say), and the service has been relatively OUTSTANDING compared to my BMW main stealer experiences... With the Guzzi dealer, goodwill and loyalty goes both ways, unlike BMW franchises

That's correct. It does not include adjustment in the service pricing. They usually ask you before proceeding with it, due to the potential extra cost.

Wankers.

Makes sense really, a check is less work than adjustment which means removing the cams to change shims, which aren’t free either of course

I forgot to follow this up. Vines initial quote of £588 was beaten by Bahnstormer who came in at £540. I asked Vines if they would match it, and upon inspection Bahnstormer quote was missing the oil.... so there wasn't really a saving to be made. However they applied an 'age related' discount because the bike is a 2018 and it all came to £511.18 INCLUDING £20 for a loan bike.

No, I'd prefer it was all inclusive rather than additional charges.
You like the surprise of additional cost when you put your bike in?

No need to be an oil snob. It is perfectly adequate for a boxer engine and it is changed every 6k miles
Its not that im a snob, its just i changed the oil once and the clutch didn't like it so its pretty much the only thing i stick to is the bmw oil, which i can live with :thumby:
