I have been getting to know my streetpilot 2610, And have been plainning a route and have been looking at camp sites eg N46 03.972 - E002 56.651 each time i put this in the go to position it comes up (The zone must be 2 characters) What is it that I am doing wrong. Most camp site give ref and I would like to be able to us it. :blast :thumb

I put grid ref into Map Source, then convert into Lat Long and export it to the 2610

Using the right map datum?

Is the 2610 set for British OS grid? I'm sure I've seen somewhere in the settings the facility to set the maps to different types of map datums.

WHat Garmin call datum is "projection" to us. It relates to the method used to straighten out the spherical world when squashing it onto a flat chart.
It i snormally written somehwre on the chart or map, and is commonly WGS 84.
Any lat long will always be a unique place, it might seem to be in a slightly different place when compatring charts with different projections, but I would reckon the differnce is likely to be less than the average GPS accuracy.

Must admit I have too have tried this and it does work:
Press and hold the Page key to get the New Waypoint screen, touch the panel beneath where it says Location, then overtype the current location with the new coordinates. Touch "GoTo" and that is it ...

Datum is datum is datum

Typically older datums and WGS 84 (or national datums based on WGS 84) have approx a 200 metre difference.

The SP 2610 will only accept a position in latitude and longitude in degrees minutes and decimal minutes and in WGS 84 datum.

If you have a position in another grid format or datum (or both) then you can change your MapSource software on the PC to this format, enter the position then transfer it to the GPS. MapSource will convert the gird format and datum.
