2610 map update

Does anyone know where I can get the last available update for my 2610.
I believe it is called City Navigator Europe 2009. I have the old V9 installed which I think harks back to 2007. Off to "Yerp" soon and would like to be more up to date with the roads.

No good for a 2610, they run non NT mapping that Garmin no longer support or sell unlock codes for. Your only option is to either get a later model or be naughty

Oops... I stand corrected

Having just upgraded from a 2610 to a 660 I'm happy with the decision

I have a legit version of the City Navigator Europe 2009 DVD. However, if you cannot buy an unlock code then you are stuffed unless you are prepared to apply a hack.

If you are prepared to apply a hack then you won't need the DVD as you can download everything you want from the web if you can figure out torrents. The words isohunt and gpsunderground if inserted into google will lead you to paradise or paranoia, depending on where you sit on the intellectual property continuum.

For me, now that Garmin have stopped supporting a perfectly good, functioning device, the associated software is fair game.

Despite it being technically illegal I do tend to agree with that statement, not everyone can afford a new Garmin.

For the 2610, CN v9 is the latest mapset that you can get from Garmin.

Regrettably this great unit is no longer supported by Garmin and there won't be any new non-NT maps.

Thanks for the info Guys.
Is it just a case of me registering on one of the se sights and downloading the upgrade then. Do I download to my pc or straight on to the 2610 and do I need to clear the current maps off it first?
Haven't used the thing in ages and forget how it all works.

No disrespect intended: Sorry to say it, but if you're a techno-numpty then it might be better if you considered selling the 2610 and got a more recent unit.

I managed to get all the other maps on to it and plan routes and waypoints etc for my europe trip 2 years ago. Haven't really used it since then so it looks like a lot of trial and error and studying the manuals again.

I believe that CN 2009 is, in fact, the latest version. CN v9 was released in 2007.

Stick with it - there are some excellent sticky tutorials at the start of this section. I read it word for word and step by step then created a simple route locally with waypoints etc and recently lead a group to and back from Holland without doing 1 single turn wrong. Best thing was to just load up the maps that I needed ie Calais to Holland

It pays to use it for local trips as much as you can until it becomes second nature to plan a route further afield. There was many a time I regretted buying it and considered getting rid of it especially as the Tom-Tom for the car is easier to use ie put in a post code and Bob's your Uncle. But that takes away the fun of planning your route especially as you can get it to take you to places avoiding the dreaded motorways.
