Im trying to fit my power lead, but am not having much success with the headset interface. The reason being that the previous owner cut the lead to reveal 4 wires, red, black, brown and white. Im presuming that the red and black is the the power to the bike, ( checked these 2 wires and they do give power to the unit ). Im presuming the brown and white wires are to do with headset interface, in which case as they have been cut, don't work.

Any ideas, or will i need a new lead altogether ?

Headset interface :nenau

Mine is connected red/black only and brown/white are taped up and not used. Headset interface comes from gold multipin connector and gets spat out of the female audio socket on the lead into which goes a male audio plug of the same ilk which in turn has a connection to your Intercom or is terminated in a ear plug.

red and black to power up the unit.the brown white for the audio, however i'm sure i read somewhere that they must be connected correctly (+ and - ) otherwise it affects the volume output. i'm not 100% but some thechno geezer will. why not take the car lead apart and have a look.

Not sure what you mean ?

Someone will correct me if im wrong, but im pretty sure the brown and white are for wiring to external speakers, e.g. car speakers. To get audio on the bike just use headphones direct to the 2.5mm female socket on the power lead or connect lead to this socket to an Autocom or Starcom.
Hope this helps. :thumb

That's what I thought I said :nenau , and how I use mine :thumb

I just wired/butchered my power cable last night. Brown and white not needed, but then again, I run another lead to the Autocom unit.

To add to what Judge said earlier in this thread:
  • There are four wires at the "cut" and of the Garmin power/audio cable: red (+ve), black (-ve), plus brown and white leads which are not connected to anything
  • At the connector end of the lead there is a moulded joint from which comes the connector for the GPSR and also a fly-lead with a 2.5mm jack socket
  • The audio comes from this 2.5mm socket and is not polarity sensitive, but it is a floating output and therefore neither wire may be connected to ground
  • If someone has cut off the 2.5mm jack socket, then you will find 4 wires again: a brown and a white (the audio outputs) plus a red and a black which are not connected to anything
Hope this clarifies things.

Right mate just seen this on bikersoracle

The red and black are for power, for any of our leads you will need to wire as below

Brown to screen or the outer cable core

White to red

This will give you audio, if not I would say the lead has got at the y section. What you could do is try the wires at the end of the lead where the power leads come out due to most of the wires still carry audio.

if not it as ive said the power and audio lead has seen better days.
