bought a 2610 from GPSW which arrived a week or two ago. Trying (for once) to read all the bumph carefully, rather than usual ploy of just using it then worrying about problems later. I'm completely new to sat nav so trying not to cock it up early doors.

Manual says follow the set up guide and do not miss steps. Having consulted various posts on here, I'm waiting for the version 9 (non NT) DVD to be released so I can have it for free (Captain tightwad), so am not registering the 2610 or software FTTB. Can I have a "play" with the other functions of the machine and the software without registering while I wait for V9 to be released?

you can install v.8 & use that until v.9 becomes available.

there is some dispute over whether you need to have registered or bought after the v.9 release date, but i believe it is the registration date that is important. don't register would be my advice, even though i suspect the release date has already passed even though it's not actually available (this is what has happened in the past).

Release date of V9 is September 1, 2006. All units registered after that date will get V9 for free when available.

So please go ahead and register your V8 and start using the 2610. :thumb2

That's for the NT version. 2610 users are waiting for the non-NT version to be released.

I've gone ahead and registered mine anyway.

With the 2610 -buy a 2gb CCF card then you can put all the maps into your machine and not worry about selecting different areas. Price of cards has recently dropped dramatically---try 7Day shop.com as they were advertising them for £20-00
