Just completed a trip with pillion and overloaded Holan panniers

Some Facts

1. 2800 miles, average 44 mph at 51 mpg.....remember Norway has low speed limits and enormous fines.

2. No oil used.

3. Max recorded speed 135 mph.....

4. 98 ron yielded 10% better mpg compared to 95 ron.

5. Seat good for 200 miles, bruised bum syndrome after some long days.

Some observations.

1. The new engine is a belter when the revs exceed 5000, 6000 and more...it takes off and other oil head riders commented.

2. The bike is very easy to turn in and a doddle at low speed despite the overloaded boxes.

3, The gear box is better at clutchless changes but drags the gears if the clutch is used over 6000 rpm......clutch is featherlight.

4. On one congested mountain pass ( full of cruise ship passengers in coaches ) the oil head bikes had overheat problems in 25c weather but the LC was OK.

5. The screen needs to be 2" wider but aero is a big improvement.

6. The LED lights and spots are very bright and annoyed some approaching traffic.

7. The ergo is fine if a little knee cramped for 6' 2" rider.

8. Exhaust note gets entertaining at high revs.

9. Few riders realised it was a LC GS.

10 The Reindeer were neutral and ignored the bikes.

Norway is expensive at £10 for a beer, ouch.

Surprised at mpg, would have thought it would have been more. Hoping the the ADV version is more distinct from its predecessor.

Somedays it did 60mpg when cruising on A roads at speed limit of 45 mph or 60 mph with few overtakes. The bike was loaded and the return was 5 to 7 mpg better than my old Oil head bike.

My 09 35,000 mile 1200gs did 54mph on 95 ron petrol round Norway this year and didn't show any signs of overheating.

Nice and to the the point. Would love to see a link to the piccies though ...

Nice of the deer to keep clear of you. Already written off one GS after fur linning the front of it with one. Would have for anyone else to go thru that.

This was on this road when it took, maybe an hour to ascend, due to coaches blocking the pinch points and hairpins. Switching off the engine was a solution and having a brew.

Roads like that should be for bikes only:cool:

Bloody coaches you don't want to meet them on a hairpin:eek:

Sounds like a good trip and the bike did well:clap

The funny thing was we got stuck behind a Police Car along the Atlantic Highway for 30 mins at the exact speed limit.........in Norway speeding is over the speed limit with no leeway. But in the backcountry there is no traffic or people so illegality rules!

It is real frustrating to be on a major through route and restricted to 45 mph with no overtaking as an armco barrier maintains the one lane space.

Trollstigen Pass:D A wonderful road which I did last year on my K1600. Luckily the coaches were absent.

Great report.
I was at the Trollstigen a couple of weeks ago, (in a cage!). Coaches weren't a problem but the cyclists were. Respect to them though the gradients are steep and long.

135 mph
We were warned by locals of the draconian approach to speeding enforcement, zero tolerance and mega fines.

Btw to those of you thinking of doing Norway, it's a beautiful and brilliant place for bikers, but the bright and warm weather is rare. Mr Rukka is your best friend.

:beerjug:

I've been in Norway all week .............. unfortunately my LC's been at home
Great place to tour....but why do they make it sooooo difficult to get here? A summer ferry from Aberdeen would be perfect!! :beerjug:
