Does anyone know how to change the NDMP port to something other than 10000 which is the default port on all servers that are being backed up by Backup Exec.

Nah don't panic it aint that bad...... it's just on one of the servers that manage the patient life support systems here at work :D:D

Sorted now :thumb2

Yep change/create the entry in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Drivers\etc\services file (notepad editable) and restart the BE Services

http://entsupport.symantec.com/docs/255174

Applies equally to the NDMP Port for all versions of Backup Exec from 9.1 upwards

You must do it to the media server and all remote servers... (which means a slightly different change needed if Linux/Unix is involved anywhere)

Cheers chap, I did find this one earlier:-
http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/255498.htm

But it didn't work, having said that it doesn't mention enabling media server/remote server TCP dynamic port range... so I'll give that a go after lunch :thumb2

The way Backup Exec works is it attempts to connect on the NDMP Port (Port 10000 or as set in the services file) for initial communication and control and then uses a second range of ports for data connections (which are the Dynamic ones). If you are playing with firewalls and want to lock down the ports then you have to open the NDMP Port (10000 or the one in the services file) and the range of ports defined in the Dynamic settings (the range should cover at least 25 but may need more depending on the environment)

The Backup Exec Media server picks up the NDMP port from the Operating System during startup of services. As do the remote agents if you have multiple servers. All servers must be set to the same NDMP Port to work you can't have some on one and others on another.

If you also use RALUS (Remote Agent for Linux/Unix Servers) then a similar setting will also need changing to match on these systems.
