I've spent a few hours searching to see if anyone has had the same trouble, but I couldn't find anything similar..........

When I try to shift from 2nd to 3rd nothing seems to happen, after 5 or 6 attempts it finally changes. After stopping for a short while I got back on to the bike 2nd to 3rd woorked okay a few times, then 4th to 5th was doing the same, all very frustrating indeed.

I did change the clutch cable in January, but I think I would have had problems with that earlier if it were not right.

The thing I'm worried about is my bike is a 95 registered (1994 tooling dates) plastic tanked 1100, therefore it has the troubled gearbox fitted, the bike has also done 70500 miles. I am worried because whilst the gearbox is out I may as well replace the clutch too, serious expense at the wrong time! Is the gearbox on it's last legs?

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you sure the shifter is going back to the normal position after shifting? It sounds exactly like my old SV650 problem. If when you shift it feels like its not attached to anything mechanical then high chances it's that.

Get greasing :thumb

Hi Rollinsdan,
Don't think you could have searched all that well  'cos this symptom has been well covered in the past ;)
It's more than likely the pivot bush in your gear lever which has tightened up and/or the two ball joints on the linkage needing stripped and lubed?? I think the lever bush sometimes needs eased a bit on earlier models? which means removing the lever.
Anyway, try another search ;) three's load of info on here.

Cheers........................Grizzly

I'll have another look cheers, It was after a full day in Liverpool, post FA cup I was searching, even though I don't drink it was a tiring day!

Put 'Gear linkage' in to the search engine........loads of info will appear!

Mine did the same back in Jan however BM sorted 1/2 hr remove pivot bush and either replace with new or re grease and re fit old one. Seems to be effected by heat so I decided to junk the CAT as well to reduce the amount of heat down below.

Its a common problem and worth doing once a year.

Fearing the worst I searched for "gearbox", I had a look at the lever earlier on, it looks to be sticky, a nice job for me tomorrow evening I think.

Cheers gents.
