2nd feed

HI guys, just bought a satnav and am looking for a 2nd feed to use that turns off with ignition. Have used the feed under the oil cooler for a USB port so wondered if there is another point anywhere? Thought of straight from batterey but don't want it permanent live all time.

Why not share the same feed as the USB port? A GPS doesn't use much power so shouldn't be a prob.

What would happen if the load was too much? Never really played with this canbus system. And what is the max load for the aux connector?

Without looking in the handbook I'm not sure what the maximum power you can take is, however if you are just powering a GPS and possibly charging a phone I doubt if you'll have an issue. If the load on the circuit is too much the ECU turns it off. When the problem has been addressed the ECU turns it back on.

I have a TomTom rider 2 and ran that off the connection under the oil cooler but the mount must draw some current even when the sat nav is not in the cradle and this did not allow the canbus to shut down some times. The clue was that you could come out first thing in the morning and put the sat nav in the cradle and it would immediately switch on indicating that the power was flowing to the cradle before the ignition was switched on. I don't know what other sat nav cradles are like. I now have a power take off from the under seat socket and have put a switch in line to isolate the mount. If you are sure the mount does not draw enough current to prevent the canbus shutting down you can take a feed from the back of the socket under the seat. That will switch off a few minutes after the ignition is switched off.

On the diagnostic socket under the seat theres a green wire. 12v positive with ignition on. Turns off instantly with the key.

Use that to trigger a relay to feed whatever you want...

Had my 08 GSA running that set up since day one....

Use that green wire to relay switch a fused or switched aux power box.

Probably OTT but there are many options

Had a dig about in garage and found a relay so it's take a feed from socket and wire it that way. If I need any more feeds will fit a box of some sort.

it will save you cutting into the bikes wiring and leaves a tidy job

All done now, fitted relay next to aux socket under seat and used the socket for a switched live, just feed cable from screen mount to rear of bike, simple just time consuming! Couldn't justify £35 for a slitter lead!!
