Evening all,
I have a problem with a GS1100 jumping out of 2nd gear,
I had this problem before, which eventualy got worse to the piont that i had no 2nd gear. just finished fitting a recon box from motorworks, and it's doing it again, it;s also giving me false gear indication. is it just another naff box or am i missing something? all help very much appriciated

Have a look at your gear selector and make sure all of the parts are moving freely and, if you feel like it, take it apart and check the ball joints and linkage arm. Also have a look at the selector arm to ensure its splines are not worn, or your selector shaft input splines, and it is positioned correctly.
If your gear selection display is wrong it could be anywhere from the gear selector switch, to its connector, and on to the RID.

Do you have a manual?

cheers Ditch water.
yeah i do have a haynes one, all components look ok, plenty of grease when put back on. all worked well on the bench, and for a few miles on test.
do you know if oil level would be an issue?

Yes, but not relevant when on the bench, and if you filled it correctly during installation it should be okay. Even if you are 20% low on oil in your gearbox there should be enough splash to ensure it functions without overheating or running dry: It's not ideal but probably adaquate.

Do you still have your old gearbox?

You could have a read of this for some inspiration.

What's this, an 1100 with problems? Surely not. I thought these were meant to be problem free.:blast:D

yeah, still got old box, but this one was suposed to be reconed, thought i'd get more than 3 miles.

Pssst' ... I thinks rt001 is takin the mickey,

Don't worry about it. It takes age and mileage to find problems. It'll all be going over his head anyway. :thumb2

You need to do those checks I mentioned and then talk to the supplier of your gearbox and see what they've got to say.

Thanks for advice Ditchwater, will be getting in touch with them, in the a m.
Jaythro, cheers for the link, very interesting. as i think i'm gona keep the bike forever, i might have it rebuild and maybe moded gear ratio's. anyone know anywhere uk based that could modifiy/ improve on standard set up

Common 1100 gearbox problem. Design fault. Send it back. ;)
