2nd hand values

The 12GS is on order. It comes at the end of July. My dillema is do I have it registered 4 weeks before the registration change?

What do we think the difference in 2nd hand value is between a 3yr old 30,000 mile 12GS on a 55 plate and a 05 plate would be?

Probably less than £500

It makes far less difference now than it used to with 1 number change a year.

Depends on you really and if it makes any difference to YOU.Most folk these days don't worry about it that much and don't understand the new style reg's anyway. Value might make a little difference if you only keep it a short time. If you are keeping it a long time and put a fair few miles on it then register it asap and enjoy it.It's mileage and condition that's most important.

I don't think it'd bother me.......I'd probably buy now for July and enjoy those precious summer weeks riding it..but then that's me.

Is it a keeper or are you planning to change in a year or two?

If the former like mine, it makes lless difference...if the latter, only you can decide whether it's worth it.

Will keep it for three years and about 36,000 miles. Is that a 'keeper' or just a casual affair?

One thing that did come to mind was that I suspect there'll be lots of bikes been registered pre September. Suppose a later registration might make it sell that bit easier over the numerous 05 bikes.

The get it and enjoy the extra month argument's a good one too.....

I hope the value of GS's generally survives as lots of sales now must mean lots of used ones coming onto the market in years to come.

The condition of the bike in 3 years time is going to be the crucial factor, rather than whether or not it has a reg number that starts 05 or 55.

I suggest that you won't want to change your 1200GS until something better arrives on the market. I think you may well wait a long time and after 3 or 4 years there won't be much difference in depreciation; As has already been said, the value then will depend much more on how you have looked after it and had it properly serviced etc. You can't have Christmas a few months later - life is too short ! Enjoy it as soon as you can. Brian

if you wait for the new plate, you might as well hang on a bit longer for the next plate after that - then the next plate after that - then the next plate after that - etc etc etc

save yourself some money and don't buy a bike at all
