Probably because they are both firmly stuck in your mouth or somewhere equally appropriate

Recall V's warranty

If there are inherent issues with the 12 then BMW has 2 options:
Recall or fix the issues as they arise on customer bikes. The second is less good as many customer bikes may limp to the end of warranty before displaying symptoms. A recall may not be possible yet as BMW may not have found a way to revise or fix design faults. Hence we are all getting our bikes fixed with stuff that is very likely to break again? Just a thought. Maybe we should be pushing for hat 3 year warranty. especially those of us who cover smaller mileages.

Yeah...I remember the point of the thread! Sorry appoll013. :o

My F650GS took 5 months to arrive [it was Winter so I didn't really mind] and had a leaky fuel tank which wasn't apparent straightaway and had to be trailered back to the the NE from Merseyside.
I wrote a polite letter detailing my previous good experience of BMW and asked if they could calm my concerns over reliability and service.
The Custiomer Service Manager phoned from BMW UK and offered me a couple of hundred pounds worth of accessories, but I had all I wanted and instead they extended the warranty and Emergency Service for an extra 12 months.
I didn't have recourse to use either the recovery or warranty again, but it shows that if you don't ask, you don't get and BMW are pretty decent about this kind of thing.
The warranty issues with my 12 were solved without haggling or reluctance and I got a loan bike to use while the work was done.

These are not mainstream bikes and we pay a premium to own them because they're different, so if they go wrong don't rant, just explain your position and concerns to your dealer or if they don't listen BMW UK...and see what happens.....

Forget the three year guarantee idea - it simply wont happen. There is a cost to any guarantee since no manufacturing process is fault free.

At the same time, forget the problems reported here. Its a totally skewed self selected sample and no real indication of whether there is a problem with reliability or not. trouble is, if you read all the posts, you end up as a "mechanical hypochondriac" listening for every odd noise and imagining the worse. Wait until something actually happens rather than anticipating disaster which may or may not come about.

Well it might eventually. It took a long time for BM to drag themselves to 2 years over here ages after the US had it. I think the US now have 3 years (Can any of our US members confirm?). So maybe there is long term hope.

Now here's a like minded fellow.;)

I must disagree.
The whole bike is not knackered.
It apparently requires some components replaced or repaired.
Most of the bike is perfectly serviceable and when appropriate work is completed the bike will be perfect once more.
If it's not 3 years old it don't need an MOT.......

You could get a job writing headlines for The Sun...
