Could someone with a 30th Anv ADV check a measurement for me.

With ESA set to normal, and bike on side stand, the dimension between bottom of right hand fork leg to the corner of the beak, as per red line on the photo.

Cheers

Mine appears a lot lower and it took some convincing at me dealers yesterday that there was any difference, however they were comparing measurements when my bike was on the centre stand :augie, after a bit on convincing they put on side stand and then sort of agreed with me

When was it manufactured ' cos the suspension units were changed mid model at about May / June 2010

Showa to white power.White power preload units are much smaller.

50mm less is a hell of a difference to the geometry of the bike.
Have you checked likewise on the other settings? Is it sitting 50mm lower on all of them?

Do we suppose that BMW went around and gave WP (You're not allowed to say 'White Power' these days...) a contract to supply x thousand units knowing they were going to be 50mm short? Fire them on the bikes guys, no-one will notice... Until darkhorse spots it?
Makes a big difference to feet on ground or not although I suppose it depends on what spring rate is on the unit, what the bike sits at when a rider is on it rather than just the unladen dimensions.
Seems a bit weird mind you.
Have you checked similar measurements at the back end? Is it just the front that's sitting lower?

Although not checked other dimensions appear ok.

I am just trying to establish whether there is a fault with the shock so I can get sorted under warranty before it expires.

I hope it is as simple as it being a different unit.

It rides ok, but I am no expert.

I'm going to measure my 2010 July factory order September delivery non ESA GSA30 to see what the difference is with a full fuel tank and 'standard' front shock setting.........!

FP.

You say ESA set to 'normal' but this will have little bearing on the ride height.

The Pre-load setting is the important setting when measuring what you're measuring. I, of course, stand to be corrected.

harry - if you have the ESA on the 2 person setting and then change it to one person and normal (not comf or sport) then there is a significant change in ride height. I know exactly what you mean though.
I/we presume darkhorse means ESA set at one person and normal?
