4000 mile on metzeler tourance exp

I run tyre pairs only when they both happen top be worn out at the same time. Ive tended to use Conti or Maxxis but using the same spec tyres from different manufacturers has never affected the handling.

Ok, do i go for a pair of metzeler next, £226.54 inc VAT & Fitting.

Just fitted Annakee 3's afer many sets of Tourance's and 1 set of EXP's which gave better road grip at expense of tyre life and gravel grip.
I like very much the initial feel of the Michelins but time will tell if their market research into what people want in a tyre pays off.

these are a couple of pics of my exp, rear tyre they have done 4600 miles exactly, they look pretty crap now, but have worked well up until now,

ive got a steady and pretty much motorway 1500 mile trip coming up, and was thinking of keeping these on which would take me up to my 6000 mile service
then just get my service and tyres changed in one go, ???????????

Yours look much better than mine. I would finish them of on the motorway before new one.

A couple of pictures.

Mine are if anything a little worse with exactly the same mileage. Have to change this week and I am having the same problem deciding. Saw Anakee 3s the weekend and liked the look of them - but looks aren't what ya by them for

I reckon 1500 miles on those tyres would see you down to less than 1mm .... ;)

They're going to be well shot after 1.5k motorway miles so I'd change them now and you can always keep this tyre in the garage for spare. If your motorway miles turn into heavy rain motorway miles, you'll feel a lot more comfortable knowing you've got decent tyres on. Tyres are just not an area to cut corners on, much the same as brakes. :thumb2

I regularly get 10,000 miles out of a standard Tourance rear. The front will go longer but normally do them as a pair along with rear brake pads. Lots of 2 up touring with luggage and camping gear. :nenau

EXP's are renowned for wearing quickly. 4K is about right for most people and most peepes will do two rears to one front. If it was me I'd just replace the rear with the same again, and then next time by a pair that suits yer fancy. (PR3's / Roadsmart 3's .. ).

Dave. Thats probably the answer to your conundrum.

I generally take my rear down to the legal limit (honest ossifer) but change the front when wet handling becomes a problem - often well before its illegal. The rear centre is almost always running on road cleared by the front so (unless you pin the throttle at every lights) it really can manage with minimal tread down the middle. The sides have to clear their own way in a bend but they never get anywhere near to worn out. Which is handy.

I like to get 2 rears to one front but with soft tyres the front can be struggle before the second rear is used-up.

7,000 KM Tourance EXP which is VERY squared off

Now replace with rather rounder Tourance Next.

Lets see what 4,000 KM does to them over the next 4 weeks.

Quite tempted to try those Tourance Next tyres. I rate the TR91's very highly as an all weather tyre where grip is number one priority and have gone through several sets, but a change would be entertaining.
