As some of you may know I've done a cast wheel conversion with my GS.

I have the RT's 5" rear wheel on which I have a 170 section tyre.

What I really want is a 180 section tyre (for looks and as it turns out cost or replacement).

Will a 5.5' wheel with a 180 section tyre fit without fouling the swing-arm?

Bearing in mind my bike's a 2003 GS with ABS, what bike has compatible 5.5" wheels? An R1150R?

Is there anything else I need (bolts, ABS ring etc) or should it all be compatible with my current 5" RT wheels bits and bobs?

Thanks in advance!

rear tyre

170/180 its still a gs,its an allrounder not a sports bike.:augie

I have no idea what you just said.

Anyone else?

5.5 wheels

i've put a set of rt wheels on my gsa...the rear one has a 180 tyre ,no probs with it at all... and it looks fecking great!..i'm not sure what size the rim is though.

The R1150 Rockster has the 5.5" wheel and 180 tyre which I reckon should fit as the rockster uses the same swing arm. The R1150R has a 5" wheel and 170 tyre.

wheels

no ,not sure, i'll check in the morning...but they are very black,,,!

5.5" rear will take a 180 section tyre with no clearance issues. Just fitted a 6" rear wheel with a 190 section tyre to my 1150:)

I thought the 5" rim could take 170 or 180 tyres, but could be wrong. I've a 5.5" one on my GS & use 190 tyres with no clearance issues.

BTW, I swapped back to my original wheels recently & I've discovered that Tourances get a bit twitchy in the wet when you ride off the edge of them - I've got so used to the extra lean/grip that the Pirelli BSB's I've been running all summer, give... The Pirelli's are supersoft, but last for ages as they've no tread grooves across the centre line or on the edges, so no wear limits to make them illegal :thumb2

5" rim will take a 160 or 170. If you want to fit a 180 you need the 5.5" rim.

Out of interest why have you swapped back to the wire wheels Paul?

A combination of Pirelli tyres being worn out & having a nice new set of Tourances on the original wheels, that had never been used. I've also got an ABS fault & wanted to use the originals to remove one possible cause, while I investigate what the problem could be. I'll soon be swapping back to the old 3-spoke 18" rear that I've had in the garage for a few years, because I've also got an old set of BT010's (120/70-17 & 160/60-18) that it's a shame to waste. Once I've worn out all these old tyre sets I've got lying around, I'll go back to the 120/190 combo as I've a pair of Metzeler Racetec's to try out :)
