6,000 mile service today

I did the 600 mile service myself and kept all receipts, Im thinking of doing my own 6000 mile service too, but depends how much they will charge to reset the service light.

I shall definitely have the 12000 mile service done at the dealer as this involves valve checks and brake fluid change. if I still have it then.

I shall be selling this one and buying the new GSA at some point in the new year.

Hi Terry

Not sure your saving any money in the long term as you (your bike) will be compromised with the trade in value! People spending the sort of cash on a year old GSLC will want to see full BMV service history.

Not sure when yours was made but there have been some needing updates.

My first service was FOC :aidan

Possibly true but done the same with my last 3 bikes and didn't loose out the last bike was a Harley Fat Bob which I put 24000 miles on and serviced it myself sold it for £600 less than I paid for it. on my Triumph Daytona I had 2 lots of recall work done and on one of those they chipped my tank. and as stated on this forum some dealers aren't quite what they should be.

Some dealers cant even clean a bike without doing damage let alone put a spanner to them. in fact you probably have an apprentice doing the service work hence the horror stories, Yes we all have to learn and I have learnt to do my own servicing, no one looks after your bike like you do that's a fact.

I've had allsorts of issues in the past loose wheels, nuts damages, chips and scratches, so I prefer to do my own as much as is possible, and have all the time it takes to take care. You've only got to look around a bike to see it has been looked after.

until the 12000 service all that is needed is oil and filter and final drive oil anything that is warranty related can still be done and the book can be stamped at the 1200, I shant be loosing any sleep over it.

Yep I work for BMW and know what goes in to the manufacture of their cars, So I have entrusted my hard earned on a BMW car and a bike. :thumb2

I still believe in doing my own servicing, the dealers are only franchises and could be multi brand or single brand, as stated there are some horror stories out there and the factory would not know a thing.:blast

a road sweeper works for the council but he doesn't plan the roads :blast

PS I love the bike, oh and the car is very nice too :beerjug:

When I was looking at buying new, The 'Salesman' told me that I'm welcome to home service and keep the warranty. As long as I buy all my parts from them.

:dunno:

Sorry I'm confusing myself - Ive even managed to put this is the wrong forum - Its a 2013 model/colour, but 62 plate GSA aircooled. It is a month early on its annual service (sept 1st registered) due to a big trip which we go on in 2 weeks. Hence it had its annual and 6k service together.
Sorry.

Eventually the penny drops, even down the deepest well.

I was told the same too

I was told the same so I buy my parts from the dealer and keep the receipts,

we do DIY on our houses to save money so why not our vehicles too.

6000ml done yesterday, £134.00 but it was only an oil and filter change, annual to get done March 14.
12000ml seems to be the biggy...

I think ill be sticking with my dealer for services as i think it works both ways 'loyalty' when having problems with warranty issues.

not bad

Just for reference my 6,000 mile service was £150-00 inc vat :D

That's not to bad a price to be fair, as buying the oil and filter + rear drive oil comes to around £100 so with the charge for resetting the service light / warning it would pay to have the dealer do the service.

Also theirs the added bonus of maybe trying out a different bike while they do it too. mine has around 4700 miles on it now so will check how much my local dealer (NOG) charge when its in on Saturday having a new screen fitted, (warranty issue cracked at fixing point)

Thanks Terry :thumby:
