Just called the local dealer to book my GS 1200 LC in for its 600 mile service which I assume after only a week ago it had its PDi would be an oil change and quick check over.
they want £186.70 well that's not going to happen I will change the oil & filter myself. I don't mind paying that sort of money for a full service but I know a rip off when I see one.

PS I love the bike, Ive now covered 400 miles so looking forwards to trying it out fully after the oil service.

You are a paying for the service and the ongoing warantee If you change the oil yourself the warrantee will be void. Not worth the risk. Your only cheaper option is an independent who uses BMW parts, even that would worry me as BMW will want to see the bikes service history for any warrantee work in the first two years.

For a new sales the initial service can be negotiated to be either free or discounted, I know 4 years ago I was quoted free for the first service on a GS, with a GSA 2 years ago £99.99 acceptably this is not now - Are you confident that changing your own oil/filter on a first service interval will not cause warranty problems?

I would highly recommend that you have the 600 mile service done by a BMW dealer - try another dealer to see if you can get a better price if you think your local dealer is too expensive.

The whole bike gets a check over to make sure nothing untoward has happened during the running in period - if you don't have the 600 mile service done correctly then your warranty will be invalid.

That cost is too high. I told Pidcock that the cost they quoted (I think £170) was too high becuase I had read that the bike had been designed to make servicing easier and so cheaper. In the end I paid about £140. Still a rip off, though for what they do.
I only wish I'd negotiated a free first service whe I bought the bike. :blast

I paid £150. So perhaps you need to try another dealer. But losing the warranty isn't a good idea.

Blimey, that's pricey - £186 for a 1st service:D

Back in the days when I last bought a new BMW bike, in 2005 - it was free and you got a cream bun too:rob

Like the others have said, unfortunately it's par for the course to keep the warranty

The desperate lengths they would go to to shift those models eh? ;-)

There was a waiting list, back then too:D

If you have a low mile 1150GSA SE, in white you can sell it for nearly as ,uch as you bought it for too

And HP2e and MM's now sell for equivalent or more than their original rrp

Some bugger must want them

Amazing how strong the market is for spare parts ;-)

I thought they didn't charge for labour on the first service and you just paid for oil and the like?

I am having a sebatical from BMW with my Multistrada 1200. Fantastic bike no complaints. Had the "running in" service in September 2012 at 600 miles, now booked in for my 1 year service at 1300 miles, cost around £170, not complaining, but its what you pay or for, in my case low use, but maintaining warrantee which is a invaluable until you need it.

Wow, that's steep for the 600 mile service :blast

I just paid £77 at Coopers of Sunderland for oil, filter and seal ring (no labour costs), and that wasn't pre-arranged as part of the new bike deal either.

Must be the great "north / south divide" :hide

That's a little rich, I have had a few part delivery issues with the dealer and asked for some discount on the 600 service and was told it was a fixed £100. I got a good discount from that.

That's the same as I paid for the first service on my Triple Black at Coopers 2 years ago, so seems they are keeping their prices competitive. I got the 6k service done for the same or slightly cheaper than most dealers last year & even got a complimentary litre of oil when I picked the bike up :thumb

Mine went in for the first service today but I'd negotiated £100. I can't remember the specifics but to be fair they did a lot more than just changed the oil and filter. There was a diff oil I think they said they'd changed plus the usual safety checks. I can scan the sheet if you want to see it.

Each to their own but I'd never consider doing the first service myself. It's a £13k bike, why risk the warranty and to be fair you can't really buy a BMW expecting cheap servicing. Someone's has to pay for those flashy showrooms

I am due for the first service on 5-th June at Batersea

Asked man behind the desk whats it going to be , he said 250

What are my chances of negotiating lower and what should I say?

I negotiated the first service before i bought the bike so I didn't have to pay,

I certainly wouldn't do it myself, the implications should anything go wrong after aren't worth thinking about,:blast

But I know they did software updates, at the same time as the service, so you'd miss out on those,

Thanks Guys

Thanks for all the replys Guys I have contacted another dealer for a quote. I will call in and have a chat to the local one here in Oxford to double check there price.

Thanks all Terry
