6000 mile service - £180. Ouch.

Wait til you get to the 12,000 mile service ;)

I also do all my own servicing from new and enjoy doing it. A 6,000 mile service on my GSLC cost me no more than £40 and the 12,000 ony the cost of an air filter and two spark plugs more than this. I used to change brake fluid according to the shedule but now test it at each servie to determine how high the water content is. Suprisingly, since testing it, I've neveer had to change it on any of my four bikes or car.

I've started changing my final drive oil every 6,000 mies because of the state of what came out after 11,000 miles. This is a mystery to me why it needs to be changed and why it looked and smelt so bad. Car final drives never have their oil changed and can go on for 100,000s miles without problems or new oil.

Mine goes in on Friday 28-04-16 for its 6000 they include the brake fluid change and final drive oil. I normally do my own servicing but part of my deal was for a free service at 6000 and a loan bike while it's being done. So I shall be out for a spin on something different too.

Parts, wages, NI on the wages, rent, heat, power, water & sewage, business rates, refuse collection, contaminated waste disposal.
Dealer probably made a £20 profit on which he pays corporation tax.

I have a little Mariner outboard on my 19 foot sailing boat, 5 HP four stroke, It cost me £406 pounds for an annual service at a service centre at Christchurch.

It makes car (BMW)bike (BMW)and watch servicing look cheap in comparison.

Ouch...think you got striped on that badly...last year service on 315hp Yanmar was £650 and Suzuki 140hp was £400 at franchised dealers

I have just had my bikes 12,000 ml service done, during which they changed the final drive oil ( first time), I asked how often it should be done and was told every 12,000 mls.

I had just been quoted by Cotswold Motorad £180 for 6k service which included engine oil change , brake fluid change and not final drive oil change that will be done at 12k service and brake fluid at 18k. So final drive oil every 12k. Quoted by Nick service manager.

I think they did make a mistake because brake fluid changes are done on a time basis ie after the first year then every two year thereafter. I think hanging it after a year is totally over the top so test mine for water content rather than just changing it. My two year old FZ1 brake fluid was fine and showed no water content at all.
