I may have missed something, but when I bought my 2720, CN8 came as the software.
Today I tried to download maps from CN8 onto my 60CS (which is primarily used for mountain navigation, but I thought I might as well have the latest maps in its system).
When I connected CN8 recognised there was aGPS attached, but not my 60, it was thus unable to download the maps.
Is there a compatibility issue, will my 60CS not work with CN8????

I think the link above to Garmin Q&A is somewhat misleading.

I assume that your 2720 came with CD/DVD's for MapSource and City Navigator V8. I also assume that you have registred the map license at www.garmin.com and obtained an Unloc Code for the 2720. Right?

If so you should be entitled to a second (free) unlock code for the CS60. Just log in at www.garmin.com using your Customer Code (=Cupon Code) and get it!

I thought those were the instructions my link lead to :nenau

Oh well these are the steps to follow:

A. Please find your Customer Code for the unlock system (depending on what you owned first, it will be an original 8 digit coupon code that you used to get a 25 digit unlock code or a 7 digit registration code that came with a unit and a particular software product). Please see "What is the difference between a 7 digit unlock registration code and an 8 digit original coupon code?"

After locating your Garmin Customer Code, complete the following steps:

1. Open MapSource.
2. Open the Unlock Wizard (either with CTRL + U or under "Utilities/Unlock Maps"). Click "Next".
3. Choose "No, I need to get a 25-character unlock code". Click "Next".
4. Enter your information and choose your emailing options. Click "Next".
5. Click "Next" for the UnlockWizard to connect to the Internet. Note - If you are using AOL, MSN, ATT WorldNet, or a similar Internet Service Provider, you will need to start the service before clicking "Next".
6. Enter your Garmin Customer Code (the 7 or 8 digit code). Click "Next".
7. Verify the information that appears. Click "Next".
8. Choose the option: "Unlock Additional Garmin Unit". Click "Next".
9. Select an option to identify the Garmin unit for which you are unlocking maps. Click "Next".
10. If manually entering serial number, enter it now, click "Next", and see below for further instructions.
If connecting unit to get the Internal Unit ID number, follow prompts, and see below for further instructions.

After providing serial or Internal Unit ID number, You will be asked what product and/or region you want to unlock to this second unit. Continue to follow the prompts from there to install the code into your MapSource.

No, it leads to:
Q. I own a Garmin GPS that came pre-loaded with detailed maps and no MapSource CD-ROM/DVD-ROM. Can I unlock the maps in the unit to a second Garmin unit I own?
A. NO. The second unlock code rule does NOT apply to a Garmin GPS unit that comes pre-loaded with detailed maps and no CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs.

But never mind - your own message is complete enogh! :thumb

i asked Garmin why my 60CS wont take the CNV8 software that came with my 2720, they told me the 60CS uses different mapping :nenau
Im now thinking that i will just need to register the unit and then it will work :nenau
Has anyone on here uploaded CNV8 to their 60CS ???

I *think* that the 2720 comes with City Navigator NT, whereas the 60CS uses City Navigator - if so, it'll be the differences between the NT and non-NT versions of the cartography :nenau

I could be wrong on that though - the Garmin website is a bit of a mess when it comes to Europe and North American products, as viewing the 2720 from the UK site takes you to the US one, so shows North America NT as the supplied mapping :mmmm

You are right of course! I missed that it was a 2720.

And I think that it is even worse. If I remember correctly so do the right to unlock to a second unit only apply to non-NT maps. Almost all units that comes with a preloaded map use the NT map, thus if you have a unit with preloaded map (Quest2, 2780, Zumo) you can forget unlocking the map to a second unit. :nenau

Locked or unlocked my CN8 NT does not work with the 60CS.
I have a copy of City Select 7 and that goes onto the 60 just fine.
Am sure there isnt too much of a difference between the two!!!!!

CN, CNNT and CS are all almost the the same. The important thing is the version number. In most areas the difference between v7 and v8 is not huge.

OK,
Can anyone point me in the right direction for City select V 6 0r 7 for my 60CS?
Can i still buy it :nenau
Has anyone got a copy i can Have :nenau

The only copy that will be of any use is if you can find one that still has an unused unlock code available.
Edit: Mountain roads don't change much so why not try Metroguide which is not locked ,cheap and can be made routable ..I use it on my GpsMap 60c with V7 because of the small Maptiles.
