Having it done at a main dealer, wots the going rate?

Just had mine done and free issued the oil and it still seemed friggin, expensive to me?

It seems the going rate for the 6k service on its own is in the region of £140-180 depending on which dealer you go to. What did yours cost?

Bob

At Rydales a 6k service (at 30k) cost me £129 on 28th June.

This does not include the "annual scam" but does include £16.75 for 3.75 litres of Castrol GPS.

My last one was a few pence over £ 117, with a free loan bike overnight, due to my shift work pattern.

Why do I feel I've been ripped off

Took the bike into Balderston for the 6000 service and warranty replacement of fork bridge, invoice reads as follows.
B*W oil service at 6000 miles + annual check £168
replace brake fluid in entire ABS integral £48
replace fork bridge- customer £24 (bmw paid for the part and 80% labour)
oil filter kit £9.19
protection cap x2 ? £0.72
dot 4 250ml x2 £4.00
workshop consumables ? £3.00
environmental charge £3.00
10w40 engine oil (litre) 3.75 £14.06
ep80 gear oil (litre) £4.35

LABOUR £240.00
PARTS £13.91
SUNDRIES £5.50
LUBRICANTS £18.41
NET TOTAL £277.82
VAT 48.62
TOTAL £326.44

I'm off for another lie down as I still have'nt recovered from the shock.
(thanks to gazza who sent me a copy of the workshop manual, guess who will be doing his own oil changes etc in the future)
Very expensive lesson learned here me- thinks

Black Dragon,

Your service does include the Annual service as well as the 6000 (see separate thread on the costs of this and Brake fluid changes).

But why on earth are you expected to contribute to the warranty cost on the fork brace replacement? That seems ridiculous.

Paul

re warranty cost, sorry should have explained a bit better, bmw paid for the part and 80% of the labour cost, at time of notification to the dealer the bike had done 4000 miles and was 23 days out of waranty, initially bmw would only pay for the part and I was going to have to pay the full labour cost £125 ish, after complaining direct to bmw they agreed to pay 80% of the labour as well. This apparently gives me warranty !!! on the replacement should it corrode as well ???
still think the whole experience was a very expensive lesson.

had a 6,000 mile service at North Oxford....was £179.... they gave me an F650 for the day - not sure if that was charged for....

Ouch, ouch, ouch!!! It seems Balderstons have adopted the rip-off policy of rolling an annual service in with a regular service and charging you for the pleasure.

Adam (who is also doing his own servicing from now on)

I think you'll find the ABS integral system is a bit of a bitch to bleed... not a problem though 'cos you're paying the labour bill :D

Not if it's Intergral ABS & you have to bleed the wheel & control ciruits it's not

if the tanks already off - 20 minutes, few more bleed nipples to open, but with the electric servo pumps, the brakes almost bleed themselves -

easier than "normal " brakes .  don't be fobbed off with techno babble talk ;)

I too was put off by sky hi service charges and took Steptoes advice........all oils changed, filters etc and brake bleed .......easy. the only thing I havent done yet is the injector ballance and the Tappet check, but as its running sweetly at the moment will get around to that later. Or pick someones brains here to help me out ;)

To you chaps who suggested I get my 6K service done before leaving for Spain. 87 pounds all in from a great dealer in Tarragona. Also 5 euros for a full breakfast on the main street in the sunshine.Southport id nice but not that nice. No the wheres that tenner to fill her up with juice

Just had a 6k service done at Bristol Motorrad - £143.00

About average cost i s'pose....??

So can we take it that the 6000k service should be around £120 - £140, but if the bike is due for it's annual service as well at that time, it will double or more the cost?
