A sunday morning "idiot" question - so apologies:blast

Yesterday I went for a run, placed the bike on the centre stand, unscrewed the oil cap, wiped and place but nnot engaged the threads to read the oil. Pulled it out and there was oil on only one side of the stick. So wiped and repeated with the same result.

For the third time there was no oil on either side.

I realise the oil will slowly collect in thew sump and readings should only be taken when the engine has been properly warmed up.

So is this the normal experience or should I be topping up.

Many thanks from a paranoid Sunday morning 800gs owner:augie

From the rider's manual:... check the oil level only after a lengthy trip ... allow the engine to idle until the fan starts up, then allow it to idle one minute longer ... make sure the engine is at operating temperature and that the bike is upright ...
