I'm putting the G/S back together slowly and its time to try turning the motor over to see if the electrics work and see if I can get oil pressure.

Keys out of the ignition and I connect the battery and immedeately the starter spins. Doesn't appear to be any solenoid movement just the armeture spinning.

I've removed the live feed to the solenoid (small wire) no change, still spins uncommanded.

I'm thinking the starter solenoid is stuck in the open circuit position.

Any realistic advise happily received.

Have you tried a little tap with a hammer to relese the sticky solenoid :thumb2

You have conected the wires corectly on the starter havent you :thumb

Checked the wiring and it appears to be correct.

Cable off the diode board goes to the post on the right side of the starter (Viewed from rear)

I'll take the SM off and try it loose with a battery/

Had this with Sid's bike, it turned out to be the battery connection from the battery +ve to the solenoid, at the solenoid end, the crimped connector, which is offset to allow for the thick cable, was attached upside down. This had the effect of making a +ve connection to the starter solenoid so that as soon as the battery was connected the starter turned.

Any help?

Nick

Tried the static test on the starter and nothing just a few sparks.

Ground the starter to the neg on the battery.

Pos to the post and shorted to the starter tab=nothing.

Nick, looking at the way the battery pos cable sits the off-set of the cripm was facing forward away from the starter which would be correct.

Thanks for the info.
