If I get a pair of these, do I have to have the wheels rebalanced or it the extr weight irrelevant?

I have had these for years and ran around on the Adv with them on but then found out your not supposed to leave them on. Had no effect on balance though, i keep one in the tool kit now :thumb

I would definately take them off, not because they unbalance the wheel (TBH I had mine on for months and apart from the constant whistling, couldn't tell the difference) but because someone may nick them. My one disappeared (who knows if it worked itself loose, or if it was pinched) but either way it bloody annoyed me as it was a really useful bit of kit. Cost me £5 IIRC for a very solid brass looking one.

Seriously, if they only come in a pack of 2 and you don't want 2 in your toolbag I would happily go halves with you. :thumb2

Do they just screw on and off, I mean could you just fit them to pump the tyre up and then remove and replace with plastic cap? - (just like that cooperesque)

If so I need a partner to share a 2 pack.:beerjug:

Valve stems

If you look in the Wunderlich catlog on page 126 p/n 5525400 these are the ones I have on my 1200 adventure thay are aluminium thay need to be fitted when you have a tyre change so thay cant get nicked and thay dont look naff!

Why not go to a commercial tyre dealer (trucks) and buy 90 degree valves that fit on "super Single", as seen on large fuel tanker trailers, Alloy Wheels and fit them. No different from a motorcycle Valve other than metal and 90 degrees. Can't be stolen but do need to be fitted to wheel from inside and then inflate tyres.

I would be weary of fitting these with the tyre pressure monitor system I seem to remember some of them giving valve trouble may be totaly unrelated but I would use caution.JJH

Yes. They're meant to be screwed on and removed when not in use, but as I said I got lazy and left mine on the back tyre permanently. Really they are just valve extensions. There was more room on the front tyre, so it wasn't much of an issue, but when you have your panniers fitted and you've got your crash helmet on, getting down close to the valve to fiddle with the air hose was a nuisance. If Stolzy doesn't want to split a pack, I'll split one with you. :thumb2

If you leave them on permanently, you do get a whistling noise at speed - the faster you go the higher the pitch. TBH it never bothered me.

There are two different types, one which as others have said are just valve extensions and another which needs to be fitted to the actual rim when the tyre is off.

I found the extensions to be as much hassle as actually attaching the hose in the first place and have never gotten round to fitting the permanent ones though I guess the wheel would be balanced after a new tyre is fitted anyway.

I've got one back and front and don't notice any balancing issues. (Or whistling!) But make sure they're tight, they can slacken off.
