22000 miles and still going strong on the original chain & sprockets with a Scott oiler is farther that the original SHAFT on my R100GS!!!!!

Unreliable old stuff - don't get the shaft failing on the 1200 do we? :P

Howard
noticed your spiel about rebuilding the R100 properly in your garage, several times.

If you do it properly, it only needs doing once, you gump. Stick to your 'British' Triumph with its Italian and jap bits....

Did you have a look at the link Howard?? It`s got forums for Tigers, touring bikes etc. Go on, it`s only a click away :D

me next

well, after reading the rants here, the test reports everywhere else there is no doubt the 1200 is "THE BIKE"
So as the owner of a STX1300 a VFR a 100GS and an 80G/s plus a couple of 80/7's.they are going and i'm going to get a 1200GS , not sure about spokes or alloys yet.but will certainly be tricking it up with all the money i will have to play with. There is a possibility I will keep one of the old airhead GS(G/S).......
Has anyone had a lowered lowered seat fitted.........

Me as well - Red/Black/Black

and my mate - not a member here but a Blue/Black/Black.

Reliability wasn't what I meant to refer to Howard. It was the checking of tension, the occasional adjustment of same, sorting out the Scottoiler (getting the flow right with changes in temperature) and cleaning the back wheel of guck which I disliked. However much they improve, you still have to think about them.

I agree chains are pretty long lasting though I had 1 snap at 10000 miles which was a bit scary; the next lasted 30k as far as I can remember. Touch wood never had any shaft problems on any of my BMs - rightly or wrongly, never give it a moment's thought.

Thats why I personally don't like chains.

Me, after R80RT, K1100RT, K1200rs (two of them), GS is the best yet and came along just as I hit the double nickel, works for me, this could be the one.

You lot are buying a GERMAN bike, with dubious build quality, for £9500ish + accessories, when you could be buying a BRITISH Triumph Tiger955i for £6999OTR with all accessories fitted.
For gods' sake wake up and support British industry for once. The Triumph Tiger is supperb. Reliable, fast, handles well and is built as good as ANY other bike on the market.

As well as my GS, I am on my second Sprint ST, bought in April brand new. The fit of the sidepanels into the petrol tank was poor, and the finishing on the edges of the fairing in the cockpit area was appalling. Triumph agreed to replace the offending panels. The new ones were better, but still not on a par with the finish on BMW's or Hondas. As for reliability, my first ST started to burn oil at 15000 miles and ended up having the pistons, rings and cylinder liners replaced.

Its time you let go Howard, all these pent up feelings about your old GS. Move on, you'll feel a lot better for it. :) We wouldn't want you ending up bitter and twisted like Robeekay now:D
