Got a bit of a hankering for one. Great reviews etc. and will no doubt be test riding soon but of course a mate has chipped in with running costs:blast
Can I ask what the servicing is like, I have a dealer quite close and TBH he was a bit evasive when asked so thought I'd ask the question in here for the low-down.

I'm coming from an 1150RT so it's a big jump, I know it wont have the same protection as the RT but what's the screen situation ? Does it offer much ? I do do hefty mileage so it's quite important. I can live with wet legs but hell I hate that buffeting.

all answers appreciated

smt

service intervals about 4500

dealer.. AMS i think are pretty good to deal with. but its nothing like a bmw dealership.

think you need to ride a few variations inc. the adventure.

if you own an 1150rt, there the greatest bike i know for falling asleep on, they have great weather protection, very well designed, comfortable, stupid servo brakes, mainly operated by you foot! great lights, but dull dull dull.

think the smt would put some fun back in your biking, but they aint perfect.

Not the same bike but my 990 Superduke has the same motor.....

As said previously, service intervals around 4500 miles. I had an interim one done just before Christmas and it was just over £200 (at a main KTM dealer in Berkshire). I don't think they're the cheapest. I've used Premier bikes in Didcot before. Found them really good, but it's a bit of a hike from where I live.

I test rode the Superduke, SMT and Adventure last year before buying. I just couldn't justify the price-tag of the SMT and Adventure, bearing in mind they use the same lump, and for what I use a bike for.... It's just a toy for me.

Bought my Superduke 3 years old with 4000 miles on the clock. Around 2-3k cheaper than an SMT and Adventure of similar age/mileage.

Thanks for the answers,
Just got a bit of hankering for one, I love a twin and will book a test I think when the weather just cheers up a little.
The BMW is great but as Nick says, dull dull dull.
