Its finally happened ABS probs. 2007 vintage
Set off no probs press rear brake hard ABS cuts in no probs use front brake ABS light comes on then ABS stops working?
Switch off ign then on, it repeats above.
Checked all the usual, rear light conns, brake light switches, ABS sensor connections and heads.
Did have a LED rear light from chairman mao (non canbus it seems) that gave me lampr warning changed back to standard now warning wont go out??
Suppose will have to get it on diagnostics:confused:
Adventure or Tenere next year me thinks.
Anyone had this problem on their GS ( I hope they hav'nt)
Cheers all.

You have a 7 years old bike that's developed a fault and suddenly a new built down to price Japanese job is better.

It most (might) certainly will be until the warranty runs out. Then what?

Get a GS-911 as I found recently it's false economy not to do.

I scribbled out several paragraphs in response to the OP not long after it was posted, put it into 'preview' and thought , what's the point, and scrapped it!

Your first sentence says enough for me.

If the rear lamp holder is corroded, or the rear filament is blown or the wrong resistance, you'll never clear the fault and your ABS will be in alarm.

I would recommend you check the lamp holder and associated wiring for corrosion then replace the rear lamp with another twin filament stop/tail lamp. Some lamps don't have the correct resistance as I recall from years ago some folk changing lamps and having the same problem. If all else fails get a new lamp from BMW to be sure it should work.

IIRC you need to start the engine to clear Lamp fault warnings.

cheers

Thanks for advice checked rear lamp and found stop correct wattage but tail 8watts ?? Will change for correct lamp 2 Moro and hope that cures 1 problem.
CHEERS.

It's a forum....the OP is pissed off cos his bike doesn't work.....he is seeking advice in the technical section....fortunately some one decided to help him rather than criticise the OP....which I think is the point of the technical section or have I missed something?

A little more help and a little less personal criticism and who knows....new people to this forum might actually want to stay and contribute positively.

Is this criticism you offer the same criticism that you criticise?

You could look at it from a flipside too - the OP had as good as decided it was time for a change of bike, seemingly based upon a single fault with a 6yr old machine. Had the OP stated it being ' yet another bloody fault', then yes, I'd have been more willing. When somebody simply throws the towel in because they can't understand something, I feel as I said ...what's the point?

Yes, the irony of my comments were not lost on me. However, he was looking for help. It is his choice whether he is pissed of with his bike.

I see all to often these day using the right of free speech to say exactly what people feel regardless of whether it helps or deploying a little grace.

And again, the irony of the comments are not lost....just trying to spread a little tolerance after a long life of dealing with conflict.

Cheers

.
How many more of us did exactly the same as you :D

aha !

Found a broken wire in rear light/indicator connector, bypassed it now warning light is off. Have not tried ABS yet, surely a broken connection to a light would not disable a major safety feature. Will post findings.
Many thanks all.
Ps to the o.p. who thinks I have thrown in the towel after 1 fault, the bike is on its 3rd final drive 2 replaced at my own cost!, 1 f.p.c. and a key sensor ring that stranded me in Portsmouth , of course this could happen to any bike.
Hope he can read this from his high horse.

It's too easy to upset the ABS electronics, even a weak battery can disable it. I reckon you have solved it if the warning has cleared.

If you ever find yourself stuck near Portsmouth again don't be afraid to ask for help, I'm only 12 miles away with a spare EWS antenna, FPC bypass cable and GS911/Netbook PC.

You Sir, sound like a handy man to know..:beerjug:

success

Many thanks for your advice and kind offer. ABS now working, I was thrown by the can.bus using the tail light as a stop light after supply was broken. In protest the side stand switch has clapped out, not a problem. Had no further problems with FD now change oil at the same time as engine oil. Cheers.

Mine will only only start in neutral but Ive just bought an Odyssey battery so gonna have to keep the bike. ;)

Well done sorting the fault. Its odd that a wonky bulb will muddle the ABS, but some automatic cars will act up when reversing light switch or bulb fails.

Hopefully you can now get back to enjoying your bike, they aren't that bad once you get used to their quirks and problems, most of which are common and easily solved. Lots of knowledge on this forum if you can see past the pisstakers and naysayers.

Well said Pukmeister no need for Job's comforters, life is too short. I stopped and gave some guy a 13mm spanner he said he would post it back he didn't but what the heck it got him out of a hole.

it amazes me how many threads about faults on forum that occur soon after servicing, farkling or fitting of some extra electrical kit (probably not OEM approved), the electrical system and canbus are known to dislike this sort of attention

+1 For some reason its a problem on this forum . Having said that the first sentence " You have a 7 years old bike that's developed a fault and suddenly a new built down to price Japanese job is better" is right. Just would be better followed by some help.
