Just got back from Ireland, 1900 miles in six days, took in the NW 200 along the way.

Point being, my a$$ is now ruined thanks to the seat on the f800gs. I got the low option from new, dunno if the standard seat is better?

Anyhoo, I've bitten the bullet and ordered the Rallye seat as its only a tenner or so more than a standard one, and when it arrives its going straight into my mates workshop to have some gel (that a rep at work "liberated" for me) put in it.

Hopefully that'll make the bastard ridable over distance, but I'll let you know.

The worst of it is, I tagged along with the Father out law and his buddies for the trip, and they're aged between 65 and 74, and none of them had any problems on their assortment of old VFR's, Blackbirds and K1300S's.

That is all.

PS Just noticed I typoed "Destroyer" in the thread title and cant edit it. Thats really annoying....

Oh yeah, I have to say that Ireland, South and North, is so lovely that me and the management have decided to go there in July instead of Spain/Morocco.

Plus it will save us having to find her an old GS or XT as she can take her Ninja...

I was toying with the notion, I've basically been working 12 hour days to catch up at work since I got back Sunday night.

If I can be arsed to upload the photies and write it up I will, never sure if its a bit self indulgent tho.....bit like prog rock...

Anyhoo, Ireland rocks, and I'm particularly in love with the south west...

I always found the standard seat very uncomfortable over a distance, so when the chance to buy a barely used Rallye seat came up I took it.

So far ... Looks the goods, and I am finding it much more comfortable in it's standard form. My only real complaint is that it is very high. I'm 5'11" with a 32" inseam and there are times when I can only touch with my toes. This hasn't been a problem so far ... the 800GS really does feel much lighter than it really is.

I could have a problem when I install my new Hyperpro progressive spring on the back. I suspect it may raise the back of the bike and make the ground a longer reach, which could be a problem. Plan B if this happens is get the seat lowered and add a gel pad, or have a go at improving the original seat.

Its dark here at the moment, but I will try to take something tomorrow. It does make it look like a "real dirt bike" (and about the same height!)

I have the appropriately "manly" yellow and Black De Walt Model. I had someone who thinks he owes me a favour powdercoat my Purple Hyperpro spring yellow, bless him, but I haven't installed it yet.

On the topic; standard height seat is also a destroyer. I know that you have already ordered a Rallye, but many people go for an airhawk. Plus, meant to be great, minus it is an attachment, not a seat thus not as good for every day riding.

Hi Snowlife ... I would love to go on a ride with you, especially as you have all that beautiful Victorian High Country, but ... I am actually in Armidale in NSW. So quite high and cold in the winter ... hence the fallen leaves, We also have some nice country to ride in with lots of hill and gorges. However I love places like Bright and Mount Hotham.

I am surprised how comfortable I find the Rallye seat. I don't have many problems with a sore bottom anymore and it solves one of the issues I had with the standard seat ... the texture. I used to find it was a bit too "grippy" and Rough. When you went on a long road ride I used to nearly get chafed if there was lot of hard braking (didumms!). The Rallye is smoother on the sides, with the grippy skunk stripe in the middle.

If you are ever up this way send me a message and I'll show you some of the nice country we have around here.
