A different Oil Filter Problem

Not to hijack but...... Whats the deal with using sand or emery paper please? Thanx

I've not tried that myself but i think you wrap the sandpaper around the oil filter and force the removal tool on over it giving a lot more grip...I think:D

We removed the fecked filter this morning, not so difficult after all. We laid the bike down on the grass left hand side down, then we picked it up because the access to the filter is far better when it's laid down on the right:blast
The grass was reall soft and Dick's bike has pannier frames and cylinder head guards on so we never removed the tank or anything else

Next I cut the bottom of the filter open making sure there were plenty of jagged edges to cut myself and amazed myself when I never. Then pulled the inside of the filter out leaving an empty can. Then finished off the tool I started yesterday to get the thing off.
The tool worked brilliantly, that filter was stuck hard and took a bit of effort (by Dick) to free it.
All in all no great disaster if it happens to anybody as long as you have somewhere to lay the bike down..and my tool:eek:
Thanks for posting stuff because it would have taken a lot longer to come up with a tool design and then only after trying loads of other ways.

Happy to lend it to anybody should they want

Well done-good to see you got it sorted.:beerjug:

John

Well done, thought that would do the trick. Maybe I should make a tool and keep it on the shelf, that way the filter would never stick! Going a bit posh eh, aren't they stainless bolts
and bobbins on your tool?

Great stuff :thumb2 might even use a HiFlo filter next time now we know how to remove them :D :D

Cheers all, it was so easy in the end:D but my my initial post was because I was told when my own oil filter got stuck during a service that it could lead to a big bill, it never, but it set me wondering.

I bought a huge bag of stainless bolts of different lengths (all the same GS size thread) off eBay a few years ago, they've been worth their weight in gold.
The bobbins are used by the installers where I work, sometimes they just throw them away, if I come across some I save them. I've got at least 2 left that I would happily post to you but you can't PM me and I'm not going to put my mobile number or my email address on display!

Thanks for the offer of the bobbins, I have a 13" swing lathe so no problem to turn sum up in a few minutes, that's why I offered to make the tool for you.

I am glad it turned out to be a loose can, it certainly sounded like that to me when you described the feel when trying to unscrew the filter.

I have not renewed my subscription this year, may get round to doing it sometime, the rudeness and better than thou attitude of some replies puts me off though I do try to put my view across when I have the specific knowledge.
