'Ey Up,

A GS is top of my list for my next bike (September). It'll be an R1150 but I wonder if someone could help me out with some info...

The only thing that'll stop me getting a GS is a stupid but unavoidable problem. I live in a semi and the two foot high brick wall and our narrowish gate at the front of the house could cause width problems (the bike will live down the side of the house). I know the bars will clear the wall, but the cylinder heads? I've scoured the net for the dimensions but can't find 'em anywhere...

If there's a GS owner out there that could measure the width of the cylinder heads for me, I'd be most grateful

Many Thanks

Russ

Width

Bars are wider than the cylinders, stand by and I'll tell you by how much !

By eye, it's about 4" per side (including the plastic protectors), therefore if the bars fit so will the rest of it, although you might need to turn in the mirrors.

Approximate relative measurements (for an 1100) are:

Cylinders - 74cm
Bars - 87cm
Mirrors - 93cm
System panniers - 97cm

I would suspect the 1150 is the same; you can fit R1150R bars but you loose points for style.

my crash bars are 30" wide

Thanks for the info guys. When I said "bars" clearing the 2 foot high wall I meant handlebars (I knew they'd be fine unless it was a mini-moto GS I was after.) It's the cylinder heads that I thought might catch... but I just checked and the gate is 90cm wide, so at 74cm they should clear fine. Excellent... roll on September!

Thanks again for measuring up

All the best

Russ
