Recently took delivery of an R1300GS which has the Nav Prep. Previously with my Ducati I’d just used a Quadlock mount with my phone and the Calimoto app which is excellent for following routes.
Now comes the problem.
Didn’t want the BMW connected ride navigation (cost and reviews), NAV6 issues or NAV5 as out of date tech.
Tried MyRouteApp on the Android Auto with my car initially and it worked, so decided to buy the Chigee BMW which works with the BMW Wizz Wheel. Initially this seemed to connect Ok but haven’t yet actually been on a run due to winter in the UK! However, now after an update this no longer works at all and just says app needs to close. MyRouteApp is excellent for route design but navigation is very hit and miss and currently not working on AA or is there a setting I’ve got wrong?
Have tried the following and my opinions as follows.
Calimoto – Excellent route navigation but does not work on AA (yet). Developers apparently working on this – timeframe unknown. This does work with Apple though.
MyRouteApp – as above, buggy and does not currently work on AA. *****(23/12 - just updated the app. Fair play to these guys who do act quickly, but my original issues are still valid - unreliable at the moment)*****
Sygic – takes a route but immediately re-routes (quickest to destination)
OsmAnd – much like Sygic but this has a great map and layout (and free). Settings are ridiculously complex and knowing what to set for my requirement involves probably 10hours of study!! This might work with the right settings but unsure currently.
TomTom GO – gave this a go earlier in the car and like the layout (probably the best) but was only on a point to point (no route). The App does allow ‘My Routes’ – tried exporting to TomTom Mydrive direct from MyRouteApp which then appears on the web version and also the App of the same name but does not show in TomTom GO app so assume this is only for the actual Tom Tom unit? Any ideas on getting routes onto TomTom GO from MyRouteApp?
Other apps for point to point – Google Maps and Waze work just fine on AA but no routes of course.
Current phone is Google Pixel 6.
Comments and help very much appreciated.
