Recently took delivery of an R1300GS which has the Nav Prep. Previously with my Ducati I’d just used a Quadlock mount with my phone and the Calimoto app which is excellent for following routes.

Now comes the problem.

Didn’t want the BMW connected ride navigation (cost and reviews), NAV6 issues or NAV5 as out of date tech.

Tried MyRouteApp on the Android Auto with my car initially and it worked, so decided to buy the Chigee BMW which works with the BMW Wizz Wheel. Initially this seemed to connect Ok but haven’t yet actually been on a run due to winter in the UK! However, now after an update this no longer works at all and just says app needs to close. MyRouteApp is excellent for route design but navigation is very hit and miss and currently not working on AA or is there a setting I’ve got wrong?

Have tried the following and my opinions as follows.

Calimoto – Excellent route navigation but does not work on AA (yet). Developers apparently working on this – timeframe unknown. This does work with Apple though.

MyRouteApp – as above, buggy and does not currently work on AA. *****(23/12 - just updated the app. Fair play to these guys who do act quickly, but my original issues are still valid - unreliable at the moment)*****

Sygic – takes a route but immediately re-routes (quickest to destination)

OsmAnd – much like Sygic but this has a great map and layout (and free). Settings are ridiculously complex and knowing what to set for my requirement involves probably 10hours of study!! This might work with the right settings but unsure currently.

TomTom GO – gave this a go earlier in the car and like the layout (probably the best) but was only on a point to point (no route). The App does allow ‘My Routes’ – tried exporting to TomTom Mydrive direct from MyRouteApp which then appears on the web version and also the App of the same name but does not show in TomTom GO app so assume this is only for the actual Tom Tom unit? Any ideas on getting routes onto TomTom GO from MyRouteApp?

Other apps for point to point – Google Maps and Waze work just fine on AA but no routes of course.

Current phone is Google Pixel 6.

Comments and help very much appreciated.

I use sygic. It's good

Busy ATM. Will post as soon as I get homework

Google maps. I use it in AA, Detailed routes. Saved routes. Send routes. And using it also shows all the saved places Ive saved over the years. Couldn't think of a better routing/Navigating set up ?

Sygic is now Tripomatic,

I'd say it's on par / slightly better than
co pilot

I use it on an 8 inch tablet, as the ability to add the road speed to the map screen is invaluable

It's taken me around the UK, & France with no issues as such, it's map interface could be better, occasionally it wants to take me to it's preferred route other than mine.

All I do in that case is do a restart and reload my route

Usually at the next rest stop lol

One I'm looking at now is petal maps

Has some nice features,

Give it your route, tell it your bike fuel capacity/ range & at what miles you want to fill up, and it will put the petrol stations on your route at xx. miles so you don't have to start planning fuel stops last minute

Wouldn't dispute Google maps on a point to point for navigation - but is there only 6 waypoints you can use? Typically my routes can have 50-100 waypoints to ensure the correct road is taken. MyRouteApp makes this scenario a breeze.

If I'm being honest, I don't tend to over plan my routes. Is Myroute now working on AA ?

I use tomtom go and myroute app, Samsung s10. No problems. Tomtom go seems to make much better choices than Garmin (had an old 395 connected up alongside at one point…) the Garmin would send you of down side roads that were dead ends!
Tomtom has a route planner that you can use on a pc, then download to the phone. If memory serves, myroute routes could be ipmprted to tomtom on the pc then to phone.
We had success on our last trip with routes matching perfectly on a garmin and the tomtom app, routes were made on my route…BUT make no mistake, you need to be put in a waymarker anywhere that the nav could choose a different route!
As a stand alone navigation aid, tomtom go on android works very well. Select route preference, such as motorway, tolls no unpaved etc.
Also, as it is live, recalculations for traffic and road closures are invaluable.

I'm currently using My Route app with my phone connected to a Chigee AIO5 play, working well so far.
I'm using it on my Africa Twin screen. The last couple of iterations have been very stable currently 4.3.4-377 for android/android auto. I use Google maps for a-b routing it's by far the best for that purpose especially in cities.

I have found google maps adds in many extra turns in the name of ‘shorter routes’. This often includes chopping a corner off by using a back street. Downside is lots of extra junctions and traffic lights. Had me very puzzled in Newcastle recently, heading down many 20mph back roads.
In the countryside, esp France, it can result in a very devious route.
Compared back to back with tomtom app, the tomtom has made much better choices the majority of the time.
Gmaps certainly is useful when searching for a restaurant/business or similar, with its search function/navigate to.👍
Just imo.

That's my set up as well but find the map too zoomed in? I understand from other users that MRA has an update in the pipeline to add zoom buttons. Have you found a workaround for this? I'm new to these devices.

I have been using the tomtom go app for a couple of years and like it. Phone mounted on a quadlock antivibration wireless charger.
It works fine. There is a routing app to use with it, its just ok.
So, myrouteapp (much better..) routes can be sent to the tomtom routing app account and downloaded to the phone. I found they worked very well, subject to the usual care with waypoints including having sufficient waypoints to stop the nav from deviating off piste!
Having just bought a 1300, I plan to remove the cradle and fit quadlock in its place. There are connectors available * to plug in to the power plug that becomes free, a simple soldered and heatshrink wrap required to join to the quadlock wiring.
Having read many reviews and experienced ownership of Garmin, I think this ^^ is the way forward for me.

If wanting just a quick route between points, I like the way the tomtom go offers a couple of route choices on screen. As usual, success improves with use! Make sure settings are correct, such as motorway yes/no, tolls etc
* nippy normans for starters..

Edit. Gmaps has its uses, inc quick find petrol or food. It does though do some weird stuff taking you down multiple backroads simply because they are ‘shorter’. Though you may end up travelling for longe4 than planned with the extra junctions..

I just used the screen in full screen mode if I need a better view up ahead, I've since upgraded to the Carpuride W702 for the bigger screen which helps.

They announced it today outside of the Beta channel. https://forum.myrouteapp.com/topic/...ack-navigation-improvements-and-cp-aa-zooming

It usually takes a day or two after announcement for Google and Apple to approve the new version. Sometimes it’s quicker

Kurviger is excellent both on the website and app (the app did used to be cheaper but it feels better developed now). I tend not to use it for the Navigation part, although it does do that, I generally export the routes it generates and import them into the TomTom Go application on my phone (as that has other warnings, speed cameras etc.)
