A new 1200 GS for 2012

I wasn't talking about the aesthetics of the bike, to me its a rip off of the 12xx..
I was talking about the reliability issue, the FD will work, taken off the new vfr... EWS, Honda HSS has been reliable, fuel gauge lets not go there. Hall sensor...the Honda equivalent never brakes and the list goes on and on..
Don't get me wrong the gs series have shone above most bikes and they do get abused by the owners thinking that they are " just forms of transport never to be cleaned or loved, its just to get me to work " whilst most Honda riders pamper there bikes and don't do anywhere near the mileage..
BUT...
If someone wants a gs lookalike that will ( almost ) never brake down then that's the bike for them..
Its about time BMW got to grips with ALL the issues that plague the GS series, The 1100 had a couple of problems, gearbox and FD, the 1150 has more than the 1100 and the 1200 has more than the 1150 so they are getting worse not better,
So all I was saying is yes Honda are kicking BMW's arse in the reliability side of things. The issue of the FD had been going on for nearly 20 years and still not fixed....
Honda reliability with the sexy looks of a 12 GS...OHH Dear

this new colouring is terrible. The most kitsch bike in the history of motorcycling ever. That and any "rockster". Oh dear. Germans and taste. No wonder the word kitsch is theirs.

What happened to the all new water cooled boxer btw?

Also, the X tourer will be a fab bike, if they ve managed to keep the VFR 12 essence and fix its shortcomings (tiny tank mainly and cr@p throttle delivery in v low pottering about), they have a winner. It does compete with the GS though (and the new Triumph) for " THE UGLIEST BIKE IN THE UNIVERSE EVER" though....

At least the GS clan has acquired a certain style by Tom & Jerry's trips, so one gets to break down in style.

Oh and Hondas do break. Just not as often as BMW. Rectifiers have plagued the marque since I was a teenager in the 80s.

I find the whole "more power Scotty" quite confusing when it comes to bikes like the 1200GS/A. I have a sports bike with loads of power and the ability to hit 180mph any time I ask it so its not like I have never had power to know what its like. So that said (and this is an honest question) why do some people feel they need another 20-30 BHP?
For one it would totally destroy any off road ability as you would never get grip unless your very experienced or lean on electronics heavily. On the road, I personally just don't feel the need for it. I don't want to do 180 on a bike like the GS/A, it can already just about hit double the legal UK limit. Isn't that enough for a bike that to be blunt is a bit of a barge? Right now the front wheel has an appetite for the sky when loaded and I can't see that getting any better with more. It isn't even as if its slow off the mark either. OK it doesn't rocket off into the distance like a sports bike but its not supposed to. People already complain about the fuel consumption on them and that's not going to improve with more power.

Cos most GSers dont have another reference point in their garage (ive an S1000RR) and will fall for their annual 2-3bhp marketing bull cos they think it will actually help. In reality its an fat traily which wont be anything other than that. How anyone thinks a few bhp more will make any noticeable difference to that reality is beyond me. :blast

I've owned sports bikes in the past, although not anything like the new breed, but I for one preferred the lazy, relaxed pace of the Gs...and enjoy the fact you can get it hustling along when you like. :thumb2

If I wanted more power then I'd really be wanting a sports bike?...or the Ducati?...but not a Gs. :nenau

Here it is Looks interesting:augie

I have only recently joined the GS owners club so I am yet to be left by the side of the road but those that think Hondas are reliable are wrong. I bought a 2009 Blade and sold it after 3000 miles, it was using more oil than an RD350! Honda said oh they do that, who hasnt heard of the dreaded cam chain tensioners that fail on most CBRs and VTR's? Reg recs? Most bikes have an archilles heel its how the dealers deal with you that makes or breaks the bike for me. I have a few bikes (2000 Blade, 2000 VFR800, 1992 ZXR750) but the GS is a strange fish, it shouldnt work but it just does, I want to ride it all day every day and over ground that it should never be any where near. I wanted a 1200GS with the characteristics and modest useable power that comes with it, I dont want a 150bhp road trailie that doesnt do anything particularly well. If I wanted big power on the road I would have kept my K6 GSXR1000, the best road bike ever built in my opinion. Come on guys the GS is an awsome bike and the little tweaks have just made it evolve into a better (maybe less reliable) beast. :thumb2
