It was an 05:35 start on Wednesday the 20th of April for me so that I could catch my 07:10 flight from Belfast to Manchester, England. On arrival there, I got a taxi to take me the 25 miles to a town called Rochdale where sitting outside the dealers (Robinsons) was my brand spanking new Kawasaki Versys.
I met Kris (that's him in the first pic) who I had been dealing with over the phone for the past number of days and we got down to business sorting out the monies/registration/insurance etc. By 11:30, the deal was done, adjustments carried out, Zumo 660 fitted and I was off on the road.

The weather was fantastic for mid April and I kept off the motorway network as much as possible, stopping for lunch at a lovely country pub. Fed and watered, back on the road and made my way to the Lake District in Cumbria which is a really beautiful part of England. I stopped in a town called Keswick where there is a cracking sweetshop as I knew my lovely wife would like a block of hand made fudge (I get a new bike, she gets a bit of fudge :thumb ). An ice cream for myself to help cool me down was needed, then back on the bike for the final leg of the journey towards Stranrear in Scotland where I would get the ferry home to Northern Ireland.

I did stop again to relieve my butt and I can see why many complain about the seat of the Versys. However, my BMW R1200GS that I had a few years ago was no better and buying a Sargent saddle was the best modification I did on that machine. Hopefully, Sargent are considering bringing one out for the Versys. However, I digress.

I reached Stranrear at 19:15 and filled the tank after covering 239 miles from Rochdale (58mpg). The ferry sailed on time and two hours after that I was back on home soil. Another 12 miles later and I pulled up at my house at 22:35.

A rather full day and I could have had the bike shipped over for about the same amount of money that it cost me to go get it. But this way, I had fun and I guess a bit of a bonding session with the new bike.

Am I happy ?

Ohhhhh yes !! :aidan

Say hello to Gillian Duffy. Gordon has been asking about her. B*got.

I fancy a Versys myself.

I guess I was lucky enough to have to bring one (of the baboons arse headlamp versions) back here to Norn Iron from Scotland last year. I had just bought the Fazer 1000 two weeks before and by the time I got back on home soil (250 miles later), I thought I had made a mistake with the Fazer as the Versys was just such fun to ride. This thought persisted and TBH, I never really gelled with the big Yam. Yes, it was fast, reasonably comfy (after some minor mods), great brakes and handled pretty well, but it didn't give me the grin factor I have missed since selling the 12GS. I honestly can't justify the amount of money needed to tie up in another beemer, so the Versys went to the top of the list as a likely replacement. Even after testing the Tiger 800XC, within two days I was back to hankering after a Versys.

And now it's here and it's mine and I love it !! :thumb2

nice looking bike, nice colour,I have always liked them.

But is it powerful enough after 1200gs?
if there was a 1000/1200 I would have one 2 moz I think.

Nice looking bike, whats the economy like on these please, and any annoying foibles with the bike so far, after having my old 650GS written off, I'm thinking of one of these or a new 650GS twin.

Loved the economy of the single, and it's 'fun factor' would this be a suitable replacement? Looks as it would tour nicely as well, are heated grips standard fitment, and are you thinking of luggage etc, as I see they do a touring version, but they quoted me nearly £7k last week. (only want to spend up to approx £4k) I need to decide soon as car driving is getting me down :(

Well I actually sold my Yamaha Fazer 1000 to buy this which obviously is more powerful than a 12GS, but I have to say that the Versys is very much akin to riding the GS. I've only started using the revs more as I've been running it in, but it feels more than quick enough.

(

I've only worked out one tankful economy wise and it returned 58 mpg.

Foibles ? No centre stand.

There are less factory fitted goodies fitted as standard, but then it is a reasonably inexpensive bike. There's plenty of choice in the used market, many that come with panniers, heated grips etc. for your £4k.
