Hi

About to purchase asome crash bars and about to choose between SW Motech or the H&B from N N. however I have a questions that may swing me one way or other.

Basically I have downloaded the installation instructions for the SW Bars and they appear to be frame mounted. Not a problem, but what if you drop the bike. Is there any potential to damage/bend the frame.

Are the H&B frame or engine mounted, and if engine, does this mean they are stronger.

Any thoughts/advice much appreciated.

Frame or engine ?

Ask yourself 'what would I rather replace, a piece of frame or a piece of engine' ? I think the answer is obvious, but you may not.

By the way, I have a set of Motech ones from Caveman (do a search).

yellofello don't think it would be problem as the bolts from SW are not the hardest as posted elsewhere, imho the bolts would "give" before any serious damage to other parts. To be honest to cause that much damage i don't think you would be worried about it either from your hosiptal bed.

I can only comment on the H&B bars on the 1100, 3 bolts attach to the frame, the 4th bolt the two bars together infront of the engine.
OK i have the tank bars as well, but it has meant that when i have lost my foot hold outside a shop it landed on the bars and nothing elase was scrathced or dented. It's been thrown down the road at 20mph (not delibratly I may add), and yes it bent the bars (actually the bars bent most at the brackets so frame would be fine) which took a slight nick out of one of the cylinder head fins, nothing else was damanged (ok indicator and scratch on screen and hand gaurd) but everything else including the frame was fine, engine still worked with no leaks, and the bike was picked up off the road, and ridden 30 miles home.

I don't know of any bars that will go down a road at speed and not bend and still cause damage, it's what happens afterwards, for me i want to be able to pick it back up and ride off safely.
