Some of us are having a Gert It Doon Yer Neck soiree to celebrate Gert's life at the "Blackloonies Hall" near Bridge of Cally next February or March and we've put a wee plan together for a permanent wee memorial to Gert and the good times we've shared there with him in the past

Rab phoned me last night sugggesting asking if we could maybe get a plaque erected either inside or outside the hall in memory of Gert. TBH neither of us were very confident given that it's a community hall and none of us (apart from Gerry Watts) are members of the community. Enquiries were made but I was told that it wouldn't be possible.

Back to the drawing board and we've come up with this idea (which has been approved by the hall commitee) and is now definite, provided that we get the support from you guys to go ahead:

We'll buy and erect a picnic table and bench in memory of Gert at the Blackwater Hall (aka "Blackloonies" hall) on the A93 near Blacklunans. As you know, Gert enjoyed good times there with us and we've all got fond memories of this. As well as using the bench for our future soirees there, we can use it as stop off point for a break and/or a smoke when any of us are riding the A93 Blairgowrie to Braemar road. We can then have a thought of our friend Gert.

We'll get an engraved plaque in memory of Gert fixed to the table.

Rab's got a table/bench in mind. It's good quality and ideal for our needs here. We thought about only asking those who've been to any of our Blacklooonies events to contribute to the buying of the bench although obviously, anyone will be more than welcome to use the bench on their travels.

Hopefully, we'll get enough support to buy this (it costs about £230) and we can have the official unveiling of Gert's table and bench when we have our Gert It Doon Yer Neck weekend.

Thanks in advance :thumb

Thats a great gesture and a great idea. I know Gert loved the sessions there and this would be a marvelous tribute to a great guy. I'll speak to you soon about funds (and send you my rota:augie)

What we intend doing is dividing the total cost by the number of people who wish to contribute. That way everyone get's to feel part of it as opposed to taking donations until the total is reached.

Also just to clarify, as I realise that many folk will want involved:

It's only "Black Loonies" who can be part of this. If you don't know what that is, then you've never been to one of our wee refreshment soirees and are regretfully excluded from this wee project.

Having been to a Black Loonies cocktail party, but having very little recollection of events, am I technically included ? :D

I have no recollections of any Black Loonies do's, but that would be because I haven't been to any yet although I intend to rectify that in February/March when ever you decide.

I would however like to contribute to the table/bench. I'll PM you on ITV.

Sorry for any confusion here.

I've had a few PMs from people generously offering to donate to the bench but I've had to knock them back.

The only money that we're taking for the purchase of the table and bench is from people who've attended the previous "Black Loonies" events at the Blackwater Hall. There are no politics involved. The decision was made by Rab and I to have the purchase of this solely made by folk who've attended these events.

If anyone else wishes to donate something in memory of Gert can they please send their money here

which is a charity that was close to Gert's heart and one fully supported by Anette.

Thanks

Lads and lassies, just to clear up any misunderstanding, the bench is being erected for everyone to use and hopefully peeps will rememeber to stop off for a wee visit and a thought for Gert when they're riding up the main Braemer road, which is a top biking road in oor wee country.

I'll post up a location pic and GPS co-ords when it's in place :beerjug:

that's a very badly worded post by me. I apologise. It wasn't meant to be as it might read.

The bench will be for everyone. No one is "excluded". If you want to contribute, and haven't been to a "Blackloonie" piss up, please make a donation to Gert's Just Giving account.

Some folk have hinted at a "them and us" situation is arising about the bench.

The reason for only attendees of the Black Loonies asked to contribute was so that nothing was detracted from Gert's s just giving accou.
It was suggested that we get everyone to conribute and any leftover funds go to the justgiving account, so what your asking is for someone to hold onto money in there own bank account until the bench has been paid for then forward the excess thus any gift aid cannot be claimed.
The first event was a UKGSER one and the rest was organised on the NFB due to organisers of events being banned from the site whether there own fault or others is neither here nor there.

The only reason for the Das Dug logo suggested on the plaque was because that was the t-shirt Gert wore on his final destination.

So people don't try and pick holes in this, the bench will be there for everyone to use and only being done through the best of intentions
