1150 gs, 2002... (~72,000 miles on the clock)
This story start a few months ago...
Started to have problems with the accelerator cables and chock cables... High revving, throttle not shutting down properly, dangerous as the revs wouldn't come down.. Took it t a local bike mechanic... Charged me 100 quid for nothing besides breaking the fuel clips out the tank, changing the accelerator cable to the cassette, and fiddling with the screws on the throttle bodies... Sent the whole thing totally out of sync....
Went to another BMW dude... He freaked out as the other guy had played with the factory settings... By then the bike was so rough ... Left the bike with him and he sourced out a couple of 2nd hand throttle bodies.. Did the adjustments and I picked up the bike after the snows had melted... Purred along for a week or so... Put in an Odessa battery...
then some kids from the local estate decided to steal the damn bike... Police press my buzzer at 4 in the morning... I looked out the window and saw them... My mind went over all the traffic violations I had done in the past year and I thought I was clean... Anyway they had come to tell me that my bike had been stolen and they had recovered it...
whew.... They had dropped it running away from the patrol and removed the ignition barrel, so have to use a screw driver to start the bike..
Since then (last week) its not the same... Seems everything has gone out of sync again... She is slurping petrol like no tomorrow... 120 to a tank...and is idling at 1500 - 2000 revs... The mechanic says the rev counter is off a bit...
Anyway to cut the long story short, I have spent over £400 and the bike is not happy.... and neither am I...
what should I do... Sell it, get some new throttle bodies, send the engine to be blueprinted, or just continue to ride and put up with the extra cost, knowing that things will only get worse...
Peace
Pierre

Get your bike booked in with Steptoe the GS guru and he should get it sorted.

There's not a nut or washer on an 1150 that he doesn't know. There's a link to his website at the top right of this page. :thumb2

I know this man, and his bike :D

Sounds to me like the TPS has been knocked and moved out of adjustment during the theft .

Why didn't your usual BMW expert mechanic test this instead of blaming the rev counter for misreading ?? :D ..

Thanks for the input, I guess I am worried that this is cronic... That I will keep throwing money at it and a few miles the road, the problems reappear...
Will check out steptoe as suggested..
peace

Did you spend the £400.00 since the bike was stolen, because it does not read like that.

Seems to me it needs Steptoe or similar non rip off mechanic to have a look at it and you need to put a decent heavy duty chain and lock on it.

London,eh! Up here you cna leave the keys in:augie

Mind that would probably un "synchronise" them...

Let that man Steptoe sort it as he seems to have two advantages... He seems to know what he's doing and he's not a Dealer...:augie A win-win:D
