About this ABS thing............

Took mine in to Blue Bell Crewe this morning to have the 'O' ring seal replaced under the 'Safety Recall 00 00 16 33 00'.

Whilst there, they offered to carry out the 'Brake Check 00 60 137' at the same time.

No problems and all free of charge - which was nice!

Clearly though, BMW should be much more open to their customers about these things!

Always find the service team at Blue Bell to be very helpful anyway unlike BMW!

I assume you get the picture. They are preparing the future:

Yup... I get the picture OK. This ABS thingy done to death I'm afraid. The document speaks of 'experts', well an 'ex' is a has been, and a 'spert' is a drip under pressure

My old MZ has had anti lock braking for generations... Now done 250,000 miles on the four valve boxers in ten years, ABS and none ABS and I don't want ABS... OK!

Besides the above, also done another umpteen thousands of miles on the police bikes', ABS and none ABS ... and I still don't want ABS. There will be those that dissagree... their choice of course :mooney

Here we go again....

There will be no choice in the future. You have my word on that.

We have your word? Wow! By gum lad you're a candidate for Prime Minister with such confidence! Leg protectors were coming, for sure, way way back .... :dabone

It'll not bother me though, for sure ... I'll keep my old MZ, and my 650 Dakar, which has given me a great 37,000 miles in less than two years, and without ABS I might add!

Why, only a couple of weeks ago... Germany with the mates, frozen motorway in the Eifel Mountains, the only guy to fall off was on the only bike with ABS ... :nod

Cheers

You are right. Some riders feel bulletproof with ABS, but it does only help in special situations. That aside I am looking forward that it is only a matter of time that all motorcycles will have ABS. If you like it or not.

I don't like it, too. :dabone

But forcing ABS to the world by the "Motorcycle Brakes" Informal Group that I mentioned before woud benefit at least three actors:

Bosch-Brembo, Continental-Teves and FTE-Automotive and of course BMW themselves. They are dealing with all three manufactures that I named here.

My believe is that it's all about money and influence.

I finally found him:

"GERMAN BRAKE DEVELOPERS come to rwtüv in Essen for the final stamp of approval. The company has built up a special expertise in testing brakes."

"We advise the German Ministry of Transport about braking systems, and we also represent the German government on international committees such as the European Union, in Brussels, or the United Nations Economic Council for Europe, in Geneva."

"GAUPP IS RESPONSIBLE FOR testing and assessing anti-lock braking
systems and electronic braking systems (ebs). When a manufacturer
asks for a test, Gaupp fits vehicles with all the possible brake configurations
and tests them in a wide variety of maneuvers on a wide
variety of surfaces."

I just phoned SPC about whether or not my bike needs this recall.

Guy said something to this effect. MCN got hold of this, don't worry. If your bike is affected then BM will contact you.

I had the VIN number ready to give to him to have it checked. Can't say it was a satisfying experience. Does anyone know the VIN numbers that are affected? Mine begins with WB104.

Eliminator. Mine ( 52 plate/ 1150 ) needs the brake check. I have been contacted by BMW, and asked to book it in for the free check.....hopefully Jefferies next week.
The VIN number starts, WB104
