Bags, bags, bags...

I started this hulabu on AdvRider about the bags...mine are since fixed and I haven't had any issues since...I added a lid stop to each for about $1.00 (be happy to pass along the bits and instructions - it takes a trip to the hardware and about 20 minutes at home) and that prevents any repeats of the original 'sun roof' issues with the bags.

After having them fitted for awhile I must admit that I love the bags. They fit for my needs wheras the others didn't...I looked at the TT bags (and others) but, wasn't particularly keen on them due to the fact that they can't hold a helmet and weren't wide enough for my standard laptop bag that I carry to the airport...The BMW bags do use more plastic than I'd like but then again what, in our modern world, doesn't use to much plastic...Look at the GS; plastic bits every where - don't get me started on that one - I'm spending a fortune on jewelry for my Adventure...

One thing that I have to mention that has been often maligned is the BMW mounting system...I personally think that it's a pretty inventive solution. It allows you to take off the bags and still carry various items when you're in need of the necessities at camp...Name any other mounting system that allows you to make use of it after the bags filled with your gear have been detached while in camp...I've gone and rode back into the nearest store from camp and strapped beer and firewood onto the bag platforms...very handy. Also, have seen folks strap spare gas cans onto the platforms to go and assist an out 'o luck, out 'o gas rider...Anyway, guess the whole thing is just a matter of choice and $$$.

BTW, if you're gonna try and pick-up a set of the BMW Alu bags call your local dealers and see if they have some in stock that they want to part with...I managed to get mine for a 15% discount including the mounting 'cause someone didn't come and pick their order up...

Just my thoughts...

Bags on !

Picked up me ADV boxes today ,as i said in a previous reply i
didn't bother with the foot pegs so saved £40.
Out of the box the finish of the frames is excellent and all holes lined up a treat.
The boxes are fine apart from the plastic
hinges look very fragile so i attached a stainless steel cord just in case.
IMO they look the mutts nuts though a bit wide

My post that is ?

I'm sorry, were you seriously suggesting we should decide to buy on the basis of whether someone posts on the BB, rather than whether a product is what we are looking for?

MikeO:p

No he's not,he's just one of the few who has got off his ass, picked up the 'phone and actually talked to me about what he wants, and if I can make it for him.It turns out that I was able to do him a cracking deal, and he's more than happy with that.I slang companies off, because I know I have the skills and experience to make a far superior product,at a far better price for club members.Lets all see your handy work now then,it's got to put mine in the shade.I think I'm going to start a slang off Vern thread, and never look at it.

Actually, the wire works pretty well...Used coated picture hanging wire and crimped on electrical connectors like in the photo...Didn't trust it in higher winds -- a guy had a semi-truck go by when he had his lid up and I guess it got ripped off from the wind?!?! -- I changed mine out for a stronger solution. I used the chain that you use on the pull on light bulbs, a thicker version of the old dog tag chains, and they sell the connectors for them that you can put a screw thru to hang the chain from the cieling...guess what? The bolts in the bags fit thru these same holes perfectly...Much stronger than the wire and all for around $1 a bag...give it a try I think you'll be pleased...

Mike O,"look me in the eye and tell me you were sober when you wrote that" Sound like you think you have to be pissed to consider my best efforts.

Vern,

I think you're getting a little paranoid. I was making comment that anyone who spent £4-600 on an item should base their decision on a little more than the fact that someone was a member of this BB. Everyone has the freedom & wit to examine the market before they make a decision; to imply that Gauloises or whoever was in some way 'letting the side down' by choosing anything other than your product doesn't make any sense. That's what I was pointing out.

MikeO:)
