Bags, bags, bags...
I started this hulabu on AdvRider about the bags...mine are since fixed and I haven't had any issues since...I added a lid stop to each for about $1.00 (be happy to pass along the bits and instructions - it takes a trip to the hardware and about 20 minutes at home) and that prevents any repeats of the original 'sun roof' issues with the bags.
After having them fitted for awhile I must admit that I love the bags. They fit for my needs wheras the others didn't...I looked at the TT bags (and others) but, wasn't particularly keen on them due to the fact that they can't hold a helmet and weren't wide enough for my standard laptop bag that I carry to the airport...The BMW bags do use more plastic than I'd like but then again what, in our modern world, doesn't use to much plastic...Look at the GS; plastic bits every where - don't get me started on that one - I'm spending a fortune on jewelry for my Adventure...
One thing that I have to mention that has been often maligned is the BMW mounting system...I personally think that it's a pretty inventive solution. It allows you to take off the bags and still carry various items when you're in need of the necessities at camp...Name any other mounting system that allows you to make use of it after the bags filled with your gear have been detached while in camp...I've gone and rode back into the nearest store from camp and strapped beer and firewood onto the bag platforms...very handy. Also, have seen folks strap spare gas cans onto the platforms to go and assist an out 'o luck, out 'o gas rider...Anyway, guess the whole thing is just a matter of choice and $$$.
BTW, if you're gonna try and pick-up a set of the BMW Alu bags call your local dealers and see if they have some in stock that they want to part with...I managed to get mine for a 15% discount including the mounting 'cause someone didn't come and pick their order up...
Just my thoughts...
