Visited Rainbow yesterday and the following checks were carried out -

Brake switch hand brake.
Brake switch foot brake.
Pressure sensors in the integral ABS control unit.
Bleed test.
Control-unit identification.
Read operating time counter.
Read out fault-code memory for overall vehicle.
Brake fluid level.
Visual inspection of mechanical and hydraulic components.
Indicators in the instrument panel.
Front wheel-speed sensor.
Rear wheel-speed sensor.

Surprise, Surprise....no fault found.

30-40 mins to complete...carried out by John (Top Lad).

Interesting to see what they actually do - mines in next week for the 'battery software' update and having the brake check done at the same time.

Kinda shows that it can't be done at home as somebody suggested in an earlier thread on this.

Then do it and please tell us what your "fault-code memory" contained.

Please disregard that post as I've become both blind and stupid :o

Had mine done at Blue Crewe this morning along with an 'O' ring seal replacement - under recall.

No problems found of course! :thumb

My bike had exactly the same done yesterday (o ring replaced + brake test along with a 24k service). Again no problems found, not that I expected any. As usual, top service from Southport Superbikes at a good price too.

Just got my bike back and, surprise, surprise, no problems.

What was interesting (well to me, anyway) was the info on the print out I got. Out of 190 hrs and 20 mins of engine running (9,721 miles) the front ABS has kicked in for a total of 4 secs and the rear ABS for 10 secs - suspect it was a result of 'playing' in the Pyrenees earlier in the year :D

That's a very high average speed!

It seems to be a common thread - check complete, no fault found either with ABS or fault code reader. No recalls or updates, May 2005 machine.

Motorrad Central? Top chaps (and chapesses).

And I thought my speed was high! Doesn't make sense does it.

Also, as with mine, the front brake is on a lot more than the rear - given they are linked this surprised me.

Presumably the rear does not come on when braking gently at slow speeds :nenau

...Feeling left out here.

I'm guessing free check ups?

Are dealers sending out invites or is it just a matter of turning up?

I've had no post from BMW for ages.....

What's the score?

(Besides Rovers 1 United 1 getintherePederson)

AFAIK everybody should receive a letter from BMW supplying an update on ABS to be added to your owners manual and the offer to contact your local dealer for a free ABS check.

I was not contacted by my dealer directly (as you would be for a recall). Maybe worth talking to yours?

I wonder if harry's bike has had a control unit replaced?

I think it's more likely that the brake is only logged as "on" when you are actually pulling the lever and thus operating the switch on that circuit. Just a guess though.

Ta, Will do!

Will add an extra dimension to my ongoing correspondence with Battersea reminding them that I'm owed money......

That would be a good explanation but, having a right metal leg, means that I have never once used the rear brake (one of the reasons I went for a bike with linked brakes) :)
