ABS doesn't always engage....

Well, I took it into the dealer to be looked at on the off chance, and indeed it was a shagged battery as well as dust in the ABS sensor. Picked it up when I got back from my holidays. On the plus side, as well as essentially being secure parking whilst I was away, all the work and parts were done under warranty, contraray to what I expected. So a big thank you to Vines!

A faulty starter motor can sometimes weaken the battery. This happened on mine. I assumed the battery was at fault when the abs lights wouldn't engage half the time. What was happening, was that because the SM was on it's way out, it would sap the battery power and and the abs wouldn't set. If anyone here keeps charging the battery over and over and you're sure the battery is ok, then the SM could be the problem. £100 new and 20 mins to fit by the way.

Big Lad:

I never had to charge the battery despite periods of a few weeks no being used and the bike started readily after a second or two of turning over, although the cranking was sometimes noticeably slow from a low battery and on those days the ABS would not engage. Other times, it was fine. The dealer apparently did a number of checks so hopefully all has been sorted

Mine plays up now and again.

When it engages there is a whir and a clunk :D

I have found that if I start the bike with a little bit of throttle it will always engage when I pull off. I'm sure my battery is on it's way out as it's the original but as the bike is used daily and it seems to be hanging on.

Jon :)
