ABS Failure

Having had a few problems with my ABS2 on my ADV I took it to Cannons today for a diagnostic check. The compute put the ABS through it's paces,whch included some very wierd noises like a stuck valve and a rusty graunching noise, The end result was

The computer says NO

Looks like I'm into a £1200 bill for a new unit. The bike is an '02 with 40k on the clock, so I'm a bit choked, to put it mildly.

Is this a 'normal' failure for ABS units, or am I just unlucky??

I don`t know about the track record or life history of the ABS units,but if mine ever packed up terminally,I`d just take out the ABS warning light bulb and bypass the unit....£20 - £30 of new brake line instead of over a grand.....

Fit the coupling pieces to the brake lines for £14 and throw the ABS unit away, its a win win, your'e £1200 in pocket AND you have regular brakes, that work.

Got to agree, if mine ever packed up, i'd not pay £1200 to put it right, after all, there are many GSer's out there who wouldn't have it in the first place.

In total agreement there

I did it, got the coupling from a non ABS bike and bypassed the lot. Saved myself over a grand in money and 5KG in weight to boot. That mean't I could eat more kebabs and drink more Keo beer and not worry about it
