The other day towards the end of a ride from Kirkcaldy, Fife to Oban i noticed that the front brake lever was havingto travel slightly further before the brakes started to bite. by the time i reached my destination it had got fairly noticable. so in the morning a topped it up, not being able to see any leaks. was fine for the ride to Fort William, but again, bit 'soft' by the end of the day. i thought maybe the brake fluid has just worked its way through and it only needed a small amount. next day on way to Inverness via Applecross i had to top it up twice. I was now getting seriously worried.
I called BMW assistance for some advice. and took it into Calderton BMW in Inverness, who were brilliant, they looked at the bike right away! stripped the bike down and finally discovered that the 2 bolts for the front brake where it goes into the ABS unit had come loose and were leaking small amoun of brake fluid every time the lever was pulled.
The technician tightened the bolts, and bled and re-filled my front and rear brakes.
Problem I now have is the brake fluid that was leaking has stained/marked the engine. it wasnt possible to see this before, because of the great scottish waether. pissing rain. so the bike was so wet you couldnt see where the leak was coming from.
Im waiting to hear back from BMW, just wanted to know if anyone else has experience this problem and the outcome?
This is the 4th problem in under 2 months. Fule pump, Battery, Freaky engine oil warning light and now this!
