ABS on a 1200

Does ABS on a 1200 make a difference?

I know after having a car with them on, I would always want it as an option. Is it the same with Bikes?

I think I can get a non-ABS 1200 right now and not have to wait for an ABS Bike to come-in. Is it worth the wait?

I have read this already on Posts, but I will say it too. The Dealer here said that BMW is coming out with a new Adventure in the fall.

I bought my 1200GS without the servo/abs option - the brakes are fine. I chose this option because of all the negative comments and apparent issues with the servo/abs system.

I rode a demo bike with the servo/abs system and the brakes were very powerful, if a little grabby, however when I stopped for petrol and then re-started the bike I got a brake fail warning on the display, which didn't go away until I had ridden about half a mile down the road! I do not know what the cause was - maybe it was me - but it was still disconcerting.

I have an early GS12 with ABS etc and it's good, does exactly what it is supposed too. Stopping on wet slippery roads is a breeze and in my opinion makes riding easier. I know the experienced riders will poo ha me but for the "average" rider it should make life safer. I personally would rather worry about steering around the object that is trying to hit me than which brake I should or should not be applying. But that is just my personal opinion.

Also you read negative threads how many riders are out there who have never had a problem??

The brake failure warning is the same on my R1200GS, it doesn't reset the warning until you reach about 5mph, when the wheel sensor tells the computer that you are moving. A mates 1150ADV does the same. This is a design feature and not a fault, don't worry (unless the warning stays lit whilst riding of course).
