Now the warranty on my 2007 R1200GS has expired I may be becoming paranoid about the noises coming from my bike.

I've just had the front wheel off to have a new front tyre put on. Now everything is back on. But when I now squeeze the front brake lever, with the ignition on there's a short burst of noise, like a zip tie being pulled or suspension creaking. It only does it with the ignition on so it isn't suspension related, and only when I'm sat on it or the bike is moving. It's not particularly loud and I may simply not have heard it before.

The bike has ABS but isn't servo assisted. Any ideas?

Hello Dave,
I've got a 2008 R1200GS. I changed the worn out rear brake disc on mine last week and ever since mine has been making the noise you describe too. (ignition on, engine off, pushing forward then squeeze the front brake)
No warning lights at all, and the brakes both work as they should.
It didn't do it before.

Did you ever find out what it was, and how did you resolve it.

Cheers.
Flo.

My 07 has made the noise you speak of since I got it in 2010 and 89k miles ago. It still makes the nose and so I can only assume the 'they all do that sir' phrase applies here.

It's probably worth bleeding the system anyway. If only to change the fluid. If bubbles have got pushed back from the caliper thus will clear them.

The noise is possibly the disk flexing sideways slightly on its bobbins as the pads press it.

If so, your pads aren't centred on the disk equally. Get at eye level to the pads/disk and slowly squeeze the brakes and see if you can sight the disk flexing sideways.

The noise comes from under the tank (ABS modulator/pump)

Hello guys!A week ago, I have also changed tires and now she has started making the same noise under the conditions described.Did anyone find a solution?

Get yourself a GS-911 and that will show you any error codes and you can also force the ABS pump to run for a short time. The GS-911 is an amazing tool for these bikes.

Thank you for your answers.Through a web search, I found that there are quite a few riders that after the change of tyres or brake discs, when breaking heard this noise. Duckspeed , before my tyre change everything sounded as it should be and the symptoms are exactly as davedyer described them and I am wondering if a solution was found.
DervMan on Tuesday,I have an appointment with the official dealer workshop to check. However, no fault indication on my gauge has appeared.

For the record the authorised dealer engineer verified that this is normal and the noise being heard is the solenoid valves opening and closing. It is common noise for the early 08 models and just to be on the safe side,I asked him to change brake fluids and bleed the system. Also,he informed me that while pushing the front brake on,rear is also actuated. But not the other way round. That 's why the noise is heard only when pushing the front lever. Now I will have to live with it.Did anyone had other approach upon the matter?

The system works the back brake pretty hard and you'll find the pads and disc do wear faster than most bikes. Brake really hard without touching the foot pedal and you can cause the rear ABS to activate. If you fit OEM organic pads at the back expect no more then 4000 miles. Sintered last well and probably over bake the back end but organic scant take the strain.

Sent somehow.
