Just a quick one.... i`ve had the abs removed from my 1150 (02)

All done properly by mototech :)

Would i have any problem getting an MOT on this now...

A friend seems to think, that as the ABS lights are on the dash, and the button on the bars, it might be a problem

Cheers

if the tester is really anal, yes, he would have to see that its been removed, tape over the light and tape over the switch lettering, prob solved:thumb,
i wouldnt even ask for that really, as its not a requirement to have abs,and niether a warning light if fitted, or is it in ireland? jus tape it over

Thanks D6, for the quick response :)
Bit of tape and its sorted :)

A better option would be to to take out the the ABS light bulb from behind the instrument panel.

Do you need MOT in cavan I thought NCt wasn't applicable to bikes down there?

Anyway, These bikes were available as ABS and Non ABS therefore have type approval on both

Was it the Servo ABS?? I'm thinking it was probably not, then you could have left it in cos the fluids are the same fluid i.e Front master cylinder to the callipers and the Rear master cylinder to the rear cylinder, It's only the Servo ABS that needs to come out really as there are 4 circuits in it and No direct fluid link (hence the crap yer pants residual braking schit!)

Anyway IF they did it correctly then as long as the front ABS Ring and ABS sensor and sticker (and rear ABS sticker) are removed then the tester has no reason to assume that it's ABS!

They really should have removed the Dash bulbs (???) and the Blue relay in the Fusebox should be lifted out too???

You can explain the switch away by saying it was a replacement and the Instrument panels are Generic across the range they all have that layout

Or you could just tell him if he is a bit anal.... that the ABS warning light is still fitted to remind you that you no longer have ABS fitted, so therefore the warning light is fully working and doing its job. voila.:augie

I binned my Servo ABS and got an MOT on on it fine.

Afaik they don't even test the ABS nature of the brakes.

Thanks All :aidan

The ABS was the Servo Type...... all was removed but the ring is still on the front wheel, so as long as this is removed, we should be laughin :D

Your right about no MOT in Cavan, just came up in a conversation, as the bike is currently up for sale ;)

Again, thanks to all for the quick responses

Dave

remove the servo relay if you want the warning lights to go out.

On this subject, does anyone anywhere make a blanking plug for the rear ABS sensor hole on the final drive?

I just can't bring myself to cut the wire off a perfectly good sensor albeit one that I don't need to use any more having de-servo'd the bike. And fitting a non-ABS final drive is a bit of an extreme solution......

they dont really test it as such, but the tester must be aware of it fitted or not ,as the brakes need a percentage to pass, OR must lock, which ABS, linked systems etc sometimes dont, so its best that the tester knows

What they will check is a warning light - and a warming light of a failure in the brake system i.e. ABS light on is a failure. Same as the low fluid level in the brakes light.

A low oil light is not a failure.

Hope that helps.

Why don't you just leave it there?

It's just me, the way I am - I don't like to have something attached to the bike that isn't there for a purpose - it's untidy. I've unplugged and removed the front ABS sensor and would do the same for the rear one if doing that didn't mean that all the oil would jump out of the final drive. Maybe I'll just cut the wire off.

Now you have a hole in the in the front fork leg that serves no purpose:eek::comfort

You think I haven't thought about taking a hacksaw to that bracket with the hole in it?! But I console myself with the thought that even non-ABS bikes have that bracket. However non-ABS bikes don't have a hole in their final drive.......

A dilema indeed:nenau

Just seen this thread - I commented on this in some ABS removal thread a while ago (which I can't find now).

Last time I had my ABS 1100 MOT'd (my first one with this bike) the tester looked it up on his PC (as they do these days with the computerised test) and said 'oh it's an ABS bike - I've just got to test it works'. He proceeded to back it out of his shop and tested it by using the back brake 'enthusiastically' on his gravel car park. All other tests were as normal using his brake performance rolling road etc. I wondered at the time whether this would cause a problem if an owner had removed their ABS but it still showed on the bikes computerised records?...

This caused some consternation to readers of that thread; firstly due to his ABS testing method (which I don't have a problem with) but mainly because there was some doubt as to whether an ABS test was required anyway (many people saying that they'd never had ABS tested). At the time, no one came up with a definitive answer and it doesn't matter to me anyway as my bike still has its ABS.

Just thought I'd mention it.
