ABS Solenoid Noise (May be)?

My 1150 GS has ABS and makes a strange 'recoiling' noise when I pull away. I initially thought it was the clutch release bearing but evenually worked out that it seems to only 'normally' happen immediately after the ABS flashing lights go off. I.e. when the ABS becomes active the first time. Do they all do that, or is there something wrong? The ABS works fine but it has done this since I have had it (3 weeks and 4000 miles). Any ideas?

The ABS does this occassionally. When you set off after starting the engine, and at times after a long period with no braking ie: when you come off the motorway, pull up to a halt & move off again.

It's the ABS self testing/arming itself & is perfectly normal.
