I had that once when I first got mine (non servo'd), when a mate asked, "what does this button do?", as he pressed the ABS button.
Turned ignition off and on again and all was fine.
Jim-650 had the same on a run out last week on his servo'd jobbie, and then it had it going to work. He went to stop and turn the ignition off and found he had no brakes...................
It got relayed to Oxford that very day.
If it's servo'd and in warranty, call BMW assistance or a dealer for advice at least.
Following up on Richie's message above, the ABS reset instructions are at this link .
I had a similar problem, new battery helped despite thinking the voltage on the old one was okay, but it didn't really go away until I had a couple of HT leads replaced with new ones.
£800 for a new ABS control unit and pump, paid for by BMW of course, bike back either tonight or tomorrow.
When I asked the mechanic about if this was common he said that officially, no, but the pumps were in high demand!
Just to update, because I have 1150 had to search other forums for resetting ABS. Once instuctions found job done in 5 minutes.
Thanks all and money saved will pay for more site sponsorship
I had the same problem a month ago with my new R1200GS (only 200 km), bike is still at the shop, factory hasn´t shipped parts yet (wire harness, 2 computer modules). Plus, the speedomenter broke down too.
Have you looked at the tail/brake light bulb? Warning light flashes if the brake filament has blown. The red herring is that if the brake filament has blown, you will still get a brake light when you press the brake as the bike uses the tail light filament instead.

Glad I looked at this thread.
Had a problem where the bottom of the 2 ABS warning lights (warning light 1 in the handbook) would intermittently stay on.
I could usually clear it by riding a short distance... then turning off, then on again.
Occasionaly this wouldn't work and the light would stay on. I wasn't convinced it was a battery problem as the bike is usually left plugged to an Optimate overnight.
Turns out the problem was the tail light. Took the cover off and saw only one filament was lighting up... the tail light which glowed brighter with the footbrake applied. Gave it a little poke and both filaments started working correctly.
Now, with the connections cleaned up, ABS light goes out correctly every time.
