I have a 2004 GS Adventure with ABS and Servo brakes. Can anybody tell me what will happen if I fit a rear wheel that doesn't have the ABS ring fitted. The Front wheel will have its ABS ring.

Idealy I want the ABS to work at the front wheel so it doesn't lock but I am not too bothered about ABS on the rear. In fact I would prefer not to have ABS on the rear wheel.

Somebody must have tried this.

I understand the ABS works by sensing the rotational speed between the front and rear wheels. If one slows down then the ABS release that wheels brake. If it cannot sense any difference in rotational speed then the front ABS would never work. If I have got that wrong then just ignore me..... :D

No one has bothered to try it because it won't work.

No rear ABS ring, means the ABS doesn't work. Full stop, end of .

I can`t prove it,but you might achieve what you want by keeping the ABS ring equipped wheels front and rear,so that the ABS system stays happy and functional, and then modifying the brake lines/hoses so you have the rear master cylinder directly operating the rear caliper and not connected to the ABS or linked circuit....

Thanks for the input. I didn't think it would work with only one ABS ring but it was worth asking.
